what are the posistions in a 3 man set up? obviously a back guy, then is there 2 tape runners? and no one that stays in the mid? if u had one guy that stayed in the middle and your front guy is eliminated wouldnt that leave a huge hole?

how bout 5 man? a back, 2 front and 2 mids?

sorry if this a dumb question. . . just curious

I've watched and helped in some 3-man tourneys and am playing some 4-man soon. All there really is are:
2 back players
1 front man/flag runner
~~
After a minute the back players usually move bunkers (no need to, they can take out the whole field from the back bunker).

In 4-man we got a whole bunch of formations. Usually 2 back 2 front. The 2 front people are on the tape shooting the angles (right player shoots left angle, vice versa).

In practices on an Airball field, no one went into the middle bunkers, it's too easy to get hit from the side. Try to have 2 front players work both sides and push up the field from the side with the back players firing down the shooting lanes.

Just some observations, my 2 cents.

i prefer that the whole 3 man team is able to play front, but not all will.

i like to play tape, and have another taper and then some one in the middle, either playing mid or back. So if someone on the side gets taken then the mid/back can move to that side, and cover the side.

If you think about it the other team is in the same situtation as you (obviously).

They'll prob. keep a man back for defence so all three of you can storm the middle and win! You can try various ways like, all three going left, right, center, 2 left 1 right etc.

Theres loads of combinations best if you know the oppositions *style* like where they position their players and you can adjust yours to counter it.

im not a tourney player but i like the strategy and everything in it. so i may not know much, but i was thinkin wouldnt you want it to be even (not 2 guys on one side or all 3 on the same sideof the field) cause then you have less angles to shoot from and if the 1 guy that was by himself on the other side is eliminated the other team is gonna wrap around ya and kick ya @ss. anyone agree with me or have a good reason why putting more players on one side of the feild would be an ADVANTAGE??

like i said i have never played tourneys but i like speedball and i want to get in to tourneys this summer (im gonna be at seatle pan am too check it out, and im getting a new gun) but i really enjoy the angles and tactics of the game, i appreciate input from those of you who play tourneys (or are good at speedball) yo give input

Cut and paste:

Do what we did today, if it's sup air and there is a snake or a submarine don't be afraid to run the 50. Our format was I ran either the 35 to the nipple or the submarine/snake at the 50, we had 2 back men take cans at the back of the field and moved up gradually, try to take everyone on the team out before making a flag grab.

Run the 50!! Don't be afraid, I was at the starting then the last game I ran the 50 and we maxed the team. Stay low if your a front man, and have your back players sweet spot.

This is the perspective of a front man, a backman can input if you play back.

remember you need coverfire so all offence is bad and all defence is bad so have a 2 front and one back guy. Also The guys role in the middle is the pointer because if he even trys to shoot he will be shot up.

have 2 really fast guys run far on the break and have the other guy that should be able to shoot while running jog to his bunker while laying down lots of paint

It all depends on your field lay-out.
Some fields will work well if you keep two back and run one tape. On others you may have to keep one back and run two tapes. Big fields with very large bunkers work well by running a two & one(two on one tape, one on the other).
Advice for the back player:
Don't move up unless you have to. The back player is the eyes for your team. The back man(snowman) watches the field for any movement and makes the calls for their teammates. Not only does he make the calls, he lays the cover fire to keep their teammates moving up the field safely. The back man will always shoot more paint than the runners.

3 man forms. I am a back player. the last tourney i did was a three. i suggest 1 guy run to the 40-50 on the left tape then have one guy run to the 50 center to get the flag pull (if center flag). then one guy in the back center. at the break the back guy shouldnt even start going to his bunker. just stand at the start box and sweet spot the hell out of the team. if none of your guys run fast all three of you can stay at the start and sweet spot and get 2-3 oon the break then fill in.

5 man forms. we usually have one guy run the center to the 40-50. one guy do the same on the left tape and same on the right. they should crosss it up (right guy shoots left tape and opposite) this way you dont have to go to far out of the bunker to get a shot on someone. two guys in the back on the back left and right stand ups. they should cross it up too. if there is a snake or sub on the 50 load it off the break but play it tight and run low. dont worry about the pull off the break unless the other team is slow and you know it or you are desperate for points then go for the 50 on the left/right/center every time. remember the bump/suck count (if you dont do it i suggest you do) whenever you kill one say suck ___ if you lose one say bump___ so in the middle of the game you might be at suck 3 bump 2 or whatever. communicate. my team plays best when we play hopper ball. practice playing hopper ball it makes you a better shot and a better all around player. especially back players
