View Full Version : Vertical Feed Aiming, HELP!

I know plenty of guns have vertical feed loading including mine. I just need some tips on how to aim and see where the balls are going. It seems very awkward when I'm shooting. I tried centering my head with both eyes open and that seemed ok. I know its bad to close an eye, specially with vert feed.
Can anyone with a vert feed gun give me some aiming tips, thanks.

When aiming down the side do you close an eye, or keep both eyes open and try and angle the gun correctly?

i always keep both eyes open so i am useing my perifferal (sp) to its full extent
Yeah kind of look down the side of the barrel. A drop forward will help you get your face closer to the gun and that will help you aim a little.

well after a while youll know where your ball is gonna go just by the angle you wont need to aim just play with it for a while

I agree, especially in snap shooting when you don't have much time to aim.
I do it down the sides keeping both eyes open. I don't really aim...jus really on instinct (I guess that's what you'd call it..) Kinda like re-curve Bows.

You can aim down the side of the gun, but once you get used to the gun, you don't have to anymore.

Say your right handed, you would aim down the left or right side of your gun?

Always shoot on the outside of your gun, it'll help keep you as small as a target as possible.
If you're shooting right handed, you shooting outta the right side of the bunker. Shoot left handed out the let side. This is IMPORTANT! If you don't master this you'll have your hopper stickin out when you go to snap-shoot.
Now for aiming..
Say I'm shooting out the right side...I'd hold the gun to the inside of my body and sight down the right side. I might angle my gun a bit to the left side to keep my hopper from sticking out.
Left side (with LEFT HAND!), sight down the left side of your gun.
Well, this is what works well for me. I dunno what your personal preferences all are.

Well, since I am the master at shooting...this is what I do...
Pull up my gun, and shoot. I aim instinctively.

If you sight down the left side of your gun while shooting right, you might be making a bigger target for yourself. I'm jus saying that's what works for me.

Ya, give it a try and tell me what you think. I usually tilt my gun abit so I can see over the side of my gun better. Helps if I have to shoot at an awkard angle.

Think about it. If you pop out the right side of your bunker, you would want to look down the left side of your gun. If you look down the right side, then you have to lean out a couple extra inches to get yourself on the right side of your gun.

You should figure out which eye is dominant. This will help you a lot in aiming. To do this, make a small triangle with your hands (thumb to thumb, index finger to index finger). Now focus on an object while looking through that triangle. Close one eye. If whatever you are looking at moved a lot, the eye you just closed is your dominant eye. Now close your other eye. If nothing moves, then your other eye is dominant.
Most people are right eye dominant, but I am left eye dominant. You want one eye closed while aiming, and that is your weak eye. With only your dominant eye open you can focus much better on your target.
I read this in an article in Paintball Mag. I have tried and it does work. Try it out. :)

Rip-
I took my beaver tail off the second day that I played with it and after several weeks I've found out that it was the wrong thing to do.
Every body that has tried my excellerator comments on how straight the gun shoots. My response usually is "whatever" since I sight down the side anyway and it's not like I use the straightness to aim. I'd just spray and pray and walk shots over to unsuspecting victims...
Anyway yesterday at my local field they kicked everyone out of the fields that didn't have a working safety. I remarkably escaped detection and made my way to the firing range to empty out my hopper to call it a day and reverse my "safety blocking" trigger job.
While in the range, I let an "old timer" shoot my marker and he too commented on how straight it shot. I take the gun back thinking to myself "what the **** are these people talking about". What makes the straight shootin of this thing so worthy of mention?
So, I decided to devise a test. I put my Tank in the middle of my chest, kept both eyes open and fanned my trigger with my extended index finger.
WHOA. This thing shot straight as an arrow!!! Damn. Wow I don't think I was even aiming before. I'd just be using my hand eye coordination to walk shots. Using this technique, you can actually aim.
Knowing the accuracy of this gun makes me realize that one ball sniping is definitely possible with an excellerator...
SO, for me the beaver tail goes back on with some padding to prevent it from scratching my Proteus. Both eyes will stay open and I believe that I will have an even better time the next time I'm out at the fields.
I think this technique can only work for Excellerators because of their remarkable straight shooting.
p.s. Please note that this technique probally cannot be achieved using the stock setup. I think the tank gets in the way. I'm using a psychoballistix drop forward and a flat bottom 16 oz. C02 tank. The tank is pushed a couple inches forwad and down allowing it to sit perfectly on my chest when firing.

I aim down the side of the marker by putting the dovetail right under and a little to the right of my eye. This allows you to get the general direction of where your marker is pointing. Usually the first shot I take is to allow me to adjust my aim and the next two shots will be on target because I do three shot bursts.
I keep both eyes open to scan the area and when I find my main target I usually close my left eye and stare down the side with my right.

I went pballin today...honestly, I dunno how the hell I aim. I guess it's jus instinctively. BUT, When I actually "focused" on a guy's bunker and aimed for him, I would sight down the right (outside) of my gun. MISTA FUNNY HANDS.
