Hey, the barrel I just got has like hardend paint stains in it. Can I use oxiclean to try and get rid of the paint? Is there any other way to clean?

Ok, I dont know what the hell is in my barrel. It's yellow so I'm guessing its really old, really dry paint. I tried burning hot water and soap, didnt work. Warm water and oxiclean, didnt work. Then burning hot water and paint thinner didnt work. I only got off a little bit of the "paint"! What the hell is it?! Any ideas on what I need to get the paint off?

how about......

boil some water, and let the barrel soak for like 30 mins with the water boiling the whole time;)

polish the insides of it... get a dowel towel, stick it in a drill, and drill away.

by the time you've put oxyclean, paint thinner... your barrel is pretty much already screwed...

I'd go with what Eryk said, just polish the barrel.

Ok, here the deal, I got a giant 5 gallon tub, filled it about 2/3 with water, put 6 squirts of hand lotion and a little cupfull of oxiclean, i left the barrel in there for 3 hours and a lot of the paint came off, so every 3 hours tonight ill be squeegein' the thing out until its super clean and then ill polish it up.

Ok, its the monring now, after the night I got most of the paint off the barrel. Howeverm there's a thin, rough layer of paint still coating the inside of the barrel. All I can do is a cloth with rubbing alcohol down the inside and then swab it out with a dry cloth, its slow, and boring, but its slowly getting the job done.

GAGH! I'll have to see if my local store has any.

Seems like your garunteed water boiling doesn't work :( The only thing that's having any affect is water and rubbing alcohol.

o:(

well, paint shell or just the paint usually gives way to ht water.... i guess this stuff either 1) is REALLY old, or 2) isnt paint :eyes:

Armson makes some teflon cleaner, it should work just fine, cause they make some nice barrels.

Alright you need a friend and 50cents for this idea.
Take the barrel, money, and said friends to a do-it yourself carwash. Insert end of high presure wand into barrel and activate.
It may not clean the barrel but it sure will get your friend yet.
Of course it might get the barrel clean.
