Hiyas, this is my first post and I just wanted to relay to you all the little problem I've been having lately and wanted to hear what advice you all could give, so here goes. I'm pretty much still a newbie I guess, I've done alot of playing with friends on their own land, nothing big there. On the other hand I've played a bit on a field thats run near my house. Anyhow the thing is that I'm a rec player and probably always will be because I play so sporadically. I own one gun, a really old spider that I've had for five years, and I never got around to upgrading it or anything because I ended up not playing for a couple years, so now I seem to be getting back in the sport to stay (hopefully). I've done some minor research (websites, talking to friends) and it seems that I'd be better off buying an all new gun already tricked out then if I were to attempt to upgrade my ancient spider. After more research I came across the new Piranha Pro TS G3 and it sounds like its a pretty nice gun for a rec player like myself. One friend of mine however continually harps on me that I probably should just go ahead and get something like a Mag or a Bushmaster or one of those "fancy electronic guns"
Thing is though that I dont think shelling out tons of bucks for a gun like one of those would be smart, especially for someone with my experience and not knowing how often I can play. What do you all think I should try to do?

P.S. Sorry for the length, and how you guys probably deal with questions similar to this alot.

Piranha VTL - 90
Macdev Gladiator w/Co2 seal - 75 (if you have nitro fills at your field get this)
Lapco bigshot - 50
Turbo valve - 20
Dye stickys - 20
Macroline kit - 10

Thats a great setup right there and its way better then the pro ts. Or you can just get a stock autococker for $330.

Thanks a ton for the reply and the suggestion. However :) could you explain to me why exactly that is a better gun? Im still a new guy and I'm slowly learning about all the little bits and pieces, I can identify different guns and stuff, but all the small add ons and what nots are what I'm still trying to learn about. At Xpaintball.com I saw that I could get the Pro TS G3 for $257, and it comes with alot of add ons, so howcome the gun you suggest would end up being better? Just curious cause Im trying to put together or buy something that will give me some decent accuracy and not destroy balls like my spider does, no matter how much I clean or mess with that thing it always chops tons of balls. Anyhow thanks alot for the reply!

Edit: Oh as for the cocker, I know they're great guns, but everything I've heard about them is that if you dont know exactly how to mess with them and fix them, then you'd better not have one. Is that pretty true or could I make use of one pretty easily? I also heard they dont take much abuse, is that true?

Ok first of all the Barrel i suggested is better then the pro ts stock barrel, the regulator is better then the pro ts stock regulator..and the turbo valve is way better then teh one in the pro ts cause alow for better airflow..i think

The Autococker isnt that hard, but i wouldnt really recommend gettin one if you dont know what your doin.

OH and you can do free mods like DRilling the VA and Trigger job and sandin the valve pin..you'll need a 12v hopper to. Hope that helped.

If I were to settle on the Piranha Pro TS G3, would a new barrel be "required" or would the stock one work well enough? And what kind of new barrel would you guys recommend?
Speaking of barrels, that reminds me, how am I supposed to tell the caliber of the paint? On the case of PMI I bought at the field it just has .68, not other number or whatever to tell me the best kind of barrel to get for it, any suggestions?

based on your player experience, it sounds like your not too sure if you want to be serious about paintball or just a weekend warrior from time to time.

I would recommend you getting the G3, that gun is very nice indeed. getting a aftermarket barrel is the single best upgrade you can do to any gun. It's up to you if you want a new barrel or not. I agree with you when you say "Thing is though that I dont think shelling out tons of bucks for a gun like one of those would be smart, especially for someone with my experience and not knowing how often I can play" I don't know saiyan said to get a cocker, because those guns are more for the experienced player, and it does take a little tinkering to get it working right. Get the G3, it's a good gun to start off with, and learn about paintball guns and their operation, including how to upgrade it as you learn more. Autocockers are very good guns as long as you take care of it. just like any other gun.

as for the cliber of the paint your shooting, check out a barrel/paint chart. there is one at http://www.mpaintball.com, just remeber what kind of paint you want to buy, find the bore size at the website, and match it up with a barrel you like.

Dont get the pro ts the gun i listed will be Way more better than the pro ts. if you'll be running nitrogen go with the gladiator regulator, but if your gonna run on Co2 go with the WGP reg, just find someone who owns a cocker and ask them if they'll sell you there WGP reg. As for the Barrel that Lapco bigshot is really good for low pressure setups like the one i listed, but since there all backordered go with a AKA javelin barrel.

Well Saiyan, how tough is it to make all those modifications to the gun you're recommending? One of the reasons the guns like the Pro TS G3 and the Shutter, and the Spyder Xtra appeal to me is that they're already tricked out (ya I assume they probably dont come with the top of the line stuff, but the fact that they have something rather than nothing is appealing), also I'll admit that currently Im not sure I'd like to go from a stock spyder with absolutely NO mods to a brand new gun and then trying to install all these things you're suggesting. Could I fubar something? Call me lazy but the other guns just seem like less of a hassel, and no offense but for a "slightly" cheaper price. What do you think?

man keep the spyder and get you a boo-yaa e-LCD frame and a good barrel. a reg and a good high flow delrin bolt will help on ball breaks (and use good paint, piranhas chop cheap paint too). you can always find someone to help you to put the upgrades on your gun (a friend maybe) and then you'll have an electric LCD gun that will keep up with shockers, cockers and bushies for about the same price as a Piranha Pro TS G3 and aftermarket barrel. piranhas are not any better then spyders (i've had both).

Piranhas Perform the same as any other spyder out there stock..you prolly didnt know how to maintain the piranha...cause you chose not to..

Its not hard to install all the features i listed..Oh instead of that Gladiator regulator, just ask a autococker owner see if they would sell there regulator for 30 bucks cause there really good on co2 (orginal price is 80).

Ok one last question, Ive been looking at the Lapco Bigshot that you recommend and Im just wanting to double check this, but it doesnt come specifically for the piranha. So will EVERY spyder barrel also fit on a piranha?

spyderstomper

yeh all piranhas have spyder threads, but the lapco bigshot is currently backordered everywhere..if you shoot small bore paint go with the lapco autospirit it looks the same but its small bore..you could get the Stainless steel bigshot but there about 70 bucks at countypaintball.com

Get piranha!

Backorder?! Blah....any clue how long they'll be on backorder for?

Anyhow, do you reccomend any other barrels? Whats your opinion of the Armson Stealth?

I emailed Mike from countypaintball.com and he said that lapco dont know when there gonna be out in stock..

You could get a Custom products barrel those are really good...practically any barrel with a good paint match well perform great.
