Every time I use my Smart Parts All American 1 piece barrel, it chops paint. This never happens with my Lapco Bigshot or J & J Ceramic. The breaking seems to be happening at the stock bolt and elbow. Does anybody have an explanation for this? Does it have something to do with the spiral porting and the 98 Custom's blow back system? Has anybody else had problems with their SPAA barrel? My marker setup is listed in my sig.
Oh yea, the paint I've been using is PMI premium, RPS Big Balls, and 32 Degree Team Colors.

Which barrel you have has nothing to do with chopping balls. That has to do with the rate your hopper feeds and the rate of fire. If you shoot to fast for your hopper you will chop paint.
I think what you are expereincing is ball BREAKS :) Which normally happen when the paintball is to big for the barrel. Try a smaller paint with a harder shell. Imperfections on the barrel, and dirt or debris can also cause ball breaks, so make sure its clean and smooth b4 you play :D
The porting on the barrel doesn't have anything to do with ball breaks, unless there are sharp burs or jagged edges inside the barrel.

You gotto get one thing straight, the paint is deffinatly breaking in your barrel unless you have paint on the bolt every time you "chop" which in that case its just bad luck that you happen to be using the all american every time you "chop" but i think your barrel is dented at the end or something, inspect that and get back to us.

Yeap, i just inspected it; there are all sorts of little dings on the threaded end. I never would have thought dings so small would cause such a problem. Pisses me off, I just bought this barrel from 1stCallPaintball.com. I know it was only $39, which is cheap, but i'd rather not have it at all if it's not going to work properly.

Customer service is good at firstcallpaintball. There mailing me another barrel no questions asked. I was so worried it was going to be a hassel. :)

Customer service is great with Custom products, i bought a used barrel, the inside was scratched to hell and the nickel was peeling off, called them up and BOOM, they send me a new one as soon as they get the old one.

Recieved my new barrel. Problem solved, no more breaks. But they sent me a 14" instead of the 12". Oh well, guess I'll deal with the 2 extra inches.

glad you solved it.
BTW: people a barrel doesnt chop paint, chop is to cut or sever in half a bolt chops not a barrel.
