you have an 18" raw aluminum piece of pipe which you're going to cut, carve, and bore to tolerances of .001" ... you've threaded the pipe to match tippmanns A'5 threads... and you ask us for advice about what color you should paint it?

hmm, sounds like you don't need a lot of help. Paint it green with spikes comming out of it and spiral porting; then put a giant sword blade goin' off a spike ...

your not serious are you? aluminum dosn't rust...
as for the porting i think if you did a porting that looked was like the porting on a Tear drop barrel that would totaly kill!

i shot it today. The things a beast. I admit its not really the most accurae and all but it shoots through breaks like mad. I was using pmi premies u could get about a nice 5 er 6 inch pattern from 8 er 9 yards. 20 yds i just aimed at birch tress it would hit bout 7 out of 10 times. I dunno its bunch better then stock. i tried about a 50 yd shot i dunno y but this barrel always shoots high it went right over the stump at 50 yds all 3 times. Thats bout it i only had 50 rounds on me. Overall i say it was a success i still gotta port it paint it up and stuff.

looks nice..you should put AA porting or freak, me and my friend took a stock spyder barrel and sanded about 3/4 of it then drilled some spiral porting in it..it used to be a cannon but now it's just as quiet as an AA

By, "sanded about 3/4 of it" he means that we sanded off 3/4 of the paint of the barrel, so it' 3/4th silver and 1/4 black.
Just clearing that up if anyone thought we sanded 3/4 of the length off. ;)

Aluminum (aluminium in Canada) does not rust. It oxidizes which means it will get a white "haze" on it. This haze can be sanded off quite easily. If you have ever seen old aluminum car rims, you know what this "haze" looks like.
Isn't rust a form of oxidization? I don't know. Ask a chemist.

Just a few suggestions. You may want to polish the inside of the barrel with the old steeel wool on a stick in a drill trick. Also, I've heard that a coating of the water-repellant RainX helps you to get a slick surface and shoot through breaks on barrels.
Also, I was thinking... perhaps you could make it a Flatline Barrel. I bleive the optimum curve for a flatline is 11 degrees. You want the barrel to aim up, then straighten out, causing a good deal of backspin as the PB rides on the ceiling of the barrel from centrifugal force. This backspin increases range considerably due to Magnus' Law, IIRC.
The relevant article is here. If you did this right, say with a strong vise, the everyone and their mother will want a flatline barrel. IIRC, you need to have a big barrel to paint ratio for a good effect.

one tip is be carfull on how you port the barrel.A good barrel has 4-8 inches that are unported to allow the paintball to hit max speed. To much porting and the barrel turns into a gas hog. Also i read the pattern of the porting also comes into play now.

FYI: rust = Iron Oxide. which means that there's no aluminum in it!
