Well, I have been playing paintball for 1 and a half years now. I have loved ever second of it, but I recently formed a tourney team with another kid and we have a tourney coming up march 29th, I dont think I'm ready to commit to these guys who have jobs and cars and can get to the field and afford to play eveyr other week, and buy gear and pay for tourneys on top of that. I'm 14 and just cant afford it, so I can either, spend ALL my money on tourney fees, and practicing. Or I can sell my rt, buy a REALLY nice pump(phantom) and shoot way less paint, and go out to the field with my school friends and just have fun and not needing to impress anyone. So what do you guys think, I need some smart opinions, when I turn 16 and can drive to the field by my self and have a job to pay for stuff then I'll play tourneys and get nice gear etc, so what do you think???

Maybe you should try to get a job? Have you dropped of any resumes? Also they can't drive you to tournys? How did you afford an RT with no job?

Job??? It's the winter, I'm 14, its hard to get a decent job. Next, they can drive me everywhere, but how would you like to drive your kid ot the pb field, there and back 1 hr each way, so they do that 4 times, thats 4hrs. Next, I got my rt in a trade for my cocker. How'd I ge tmy cocker??? Christmas, my parents payed 300 for it, then with all the other money i got I payed them 150 back. Then, I traded my cocker for the rt. I'm fully capiable of getting a gun etc, but once you start adding in gun parts, just playing, then tourney fees, it becomes a lot of money.
Also, if i got a pump it would be a
Silver phantom
vertical 4 oz tank
stock
stock class 15 rd feed tube
So, any more opinions

have you tried playing with a pump before?..personally, I'd choose that route, but I'm not you, and do different things for fun.

Get a Phantom or Nightmare, use a standard hopper and 20oz tank, and just enter tourneys with that. You still save tons of cash, but yet have a competitive gun. ROF isn't anything, if you use that one shot right it's as effective as 20.

Uh... yeah.
Although, if you managed to bunker someone with the pump, then that'd be awesome.

yea dont just assume pump is a good choice. you may not even like playing with a pump, and being stuck with it wouldnt be worth it.

Just do whatever you think you will enjoy most. Tourney ball isn't for everyone, and sometimes you just need a variation in how you play to have alot of fun. I would reccomend that you try and borrow someones pump for a day, and see if you like it as opposed to playing with a semi. Who knows, maybe you'll love stock class/pumps. If you try out the pump, and you don't think it's for you, then just wait a few years before you start playin in tourneys, and keep practicing with your RT. I would be in the same situation as you, except they're opening an indoor field 10 mins away from my house, and my dad works across the street from it. Hopefully I can get a job there:D
Get a NIGHTMARE? Okay there Pops. Newsflash. They stopped making those years ago, they're hard to find. World War II is over, the Germans won. And OJ Simpson is guilty! Where have you been hiding, Hermit?
Any ways. I can't really say. Since I actually do play tournaments with pumps. I'm biased towards that route. I'd suggest that since I think it's a fun, and different (plus challenging) style of play.
Save the tournament years for later on. You will need a job before you can even think of this style.

And you think I don't know that? They aren't that hard to find, you see 2 or 3 of them a month on eBay, not to mention they are constantly for sale on the stockclasspaintball.com forums. Plus the cool factor is off the scale, and they HURT .

well i still dont no what to do, i have played pump before its fun, kinda, but i want to ttry something different, and perosnally playing once a month inst fun, but playign twice would be much better, blah blah blah i dont no, i guess il just keep the rt for now, try this tourney and see how it all plays out
You must have better luck. I can never find Nightmares. I'm still sad for having sold my extremely rare LBSC version. The style I had was very hard to find.
Sigh. Oh well.

id say keep the rt and get a cheap used pump, and play with that till u can get a job, then do tournies, that way, you will have honed skills from the pump and a cash flow... just my 02:)

Go to a local semi field and rent a pump. Try it and see how you like it. It takes time, but you will get good. I play against semi's with my pump sometimes and it's lots of fun.
Here's a hint, let the semi shooters stay ahead of you, then silently get into position and start picking off the people on the other team. Most semi shooters get excited when they hear 10 or 20 shots in rapid succession. Most people forget you're there when all they hear is teh occasional "POP"!
They are more worried about the semi's than they are you, so use that to your advantage.
And the Phantom is a good choice. For going against semi's a stock class marker is better than one with a hopper, lower profile and less of a target.

i would try you best to get a job, (i know how hard it is, im only 13), or just try to get out of the team. if you dont feel comfortable just tell them that and im sure they will understand, tell them about the money too. dont go with a pump man, i dont like em, i only use one for my backup.

No, I don't know him, sorry. :)
He's only been playing for a short time though, he said about 1.5 years, so I assumed he maybe never tried playing pump against semi, my bad, sorry! ;)

Why not play rec instead of tourney. Not as expensive as playing tourney by far and you could still use your mag. Going straight to rec with a pump seems like a bit of a jump unless your totally broke.
Personally I play once a week and spend about $20 a week including gas and paint. If you can swing paying for a tournament you should be able to afford playing a couple times a month of rec just dont shoot a case a day learn to conserve paint by making your shots count. I shot a bag a day and can get as many eleminations as the people who shoot a case a day because I'm not trying to paint the entire other side of the field a different color.
Just my $0.02
