ESPN 2 for a short period of time did air paintball. However, it was very unsucsesfull. ESPN realesed a statement at one point saying that they do not air paintball and will not within any time they can forsee. They said some day if there enough of a market for it they will.

Just wait till the USPL style of paintball starts to get played...this one is trying to make it on television and seems very interesting.
ESPN didnt stop showing paintball because of low ratings...but rather because of the NPPL no longer wanted them to show paintball. Its not ESPN's fault, we blew it.

GAME RULES
BASIC RULES (for full-length version. Abbreviated format rules
follow the basic rules)
A game is 21 minutes in length and is divided into three 7 minute
periods of play.
The game clock only runs during play and is stopped for penalties and
breaks during play.
The field is 200 feet long by 120 feet wide. There is a goal at either
end of the field and the field itself is divided into three ‘zones’.
Teams score by carrying their flag through their opponent's goal. The
points awarded for a score depend on the position of the opponent's
flag. Teams can score 1, 3 or 7 points.
Play is stopped by the referees to assess penalties or following a
score. Teams begin play following a score at full strength. Teams
switch ends at the beginning of a new period of play.
Teams are 7 players in size, are allowed alternates and are allowed a
coaching staff.
Players are eliminated in the standard manner and must leave the field
immediately. (No points are awarded for eliminations.)
Flags may be advanced down the field by being carried or thrown.
Thrown flags do not have to be thrown to another player.
A live player or players must precede the flag into a new zone on the
field. (Player movement is not restricted in any manner.)
Teams may not touch or move their opponent's flag.
Velocity limits are 300 fps. Standard methods of chronographing are
used.
Penalties take the form of 1-for-1s, penalty time off the field, loss of
ground (either for the players and or the flag).
ABBREVIATED FORMAT RULES
An abbreviated format game consists of a single ten minute period of
play. All other standard rules apply.
Not mentioned is slamming and the bunkers. Bunkers are kneeldowns(all of them) like supair fields. You can slam into them and knock your opponents out of the bunker and then eliminate them.
http://paintballleague.com for more info and dates. Sounds like it'll be a lot of fun and interesting. Its making paintball more enjoyable to watch and easier to relate to(for those that dont play.)

1. Ok compare paintball to baseball (ver, very, very crude comparison). the paintball moves at a speed on average at 180 m.p.h. / while on the other hand the baseball is thrown at a speed close to 90 m.p.h. or 100 m.p.h.*
-My main thing here is that we CAN'T see the paintball fly through the air, we CAN see the baseball fly through the air. people WANT to see the paintballs, but there just too small, and fast.*
2. "Couldn't we put camera's on people so we could get close up in the action?"
common question, but the answer is simply 'no'*
-Would you like to have a camera strapped to your helmet, gun, back, arm, etc... ???? I sure wouldn't, but i don't know about youz out der... On your helmet, gun, arm, anywhere would create a larger area of target for the enemy to hit. that would make the game faster ending, but that is another part of my conversation.*
3. We would have to have at least 20 to 50 cameras to catch all the action. That IS possible, but not practicle.*
-ESPN and ESPN2 did attempt to capture the world of paintball, but they did not sucseed, for one (or many other) reason(s). They did not have enough camera's was one of the reasons. If you wanna capture the 'Full' game, you must get all of the angles. For instance instead of mounting cameras on the people, mount 'em on the bunkers, good idea right? no. paintball is a dirty sport. if a ball breaks on the camera, you no longer have a clear picture.*
4. Sup air ball feilds are the only reasonable feild to play paintball on, and have it on camera. This is the ultimate feild, period.*
-The woods are nice, but people play different out there. If we were to bring 20 to 50 cameras out there and still try to hide behind a tree, then the camera crew has to film us hiding behind the tree. BINGO they just gave away our hiding place. thats why the woods are not the best place to play paintball, while being taped.*
-Speedball feilds are to small, and they don't allow enough time for us to actually see whats goin on. I really can't say much good stuff about speedball feilds, except that they are easy to make, and provide a great way for us to use up our paint REALLY FAST.*
-Sup air feilds are great. they are BIG and they offer a great way for us to tape whats goin on. We can easily mount cameras on the side, in the back, overhead, or where ever. this gives us lots of possibilitys with our game.*
OK the * after all the things mean that this is MY OPINION. U can argue, in fact please do, but i'm just tring to state something in which i believe. I get most of this info from others opinions. Over in the UK they have the same deal with this problem.
If you go to WARPIG.com or P8NTBALLER.com , i belive you'll find i big list of peoples opinions on this topic. I wish paintball was on TV, but it just seems that it is not 'Big' enough yet. Oh well give it 5 or 8 years, then we'll be looking at an evolved sport! Look how fast things are progressing! we now have true LP guns, ACE technology, Electronic trigger frames, delrin internals. that is all in the last 1 to 3 years! it will defenitally be on TV. It's no longer a question of 'how', but a question of 'when'.

Read above post about the USPL's method of paintball. There format would be TV friendly and would allow cameras to be shown from Sideline views(like football and basketball). And since all bunkers are kneelers, no difficult angles to film it in. The format and size of field make it easier to cover and interesting to watch. Slams are allowed to appeal to t.v. viewers(it is this method of paintballs goal). If you read exerts and reviews from there page, a lot of paintballers liked watching the game, it leaves for comebacks since points arent scored by eliminations. Its easy to understand and would be interesting to play.
It doesnt matter if the paintball is seen or not...the result will be easeir to see. Small field and easily viewable.

Oh, read how much coverage they got...
