I just bought a Tippmann 98 Custom. What upgrades would you recommend and where you recommend getting them from?

This should be in the blowback forum, but the first upgrade that you should do is a new barrel. If you tell me what paint you shoot most often I can give you a few suggestions. After that I would make sure that you buy a revvy to get rid of those ball jams. I would make your gun comfortable after that, buy new grips if you don't like yours, etc. Do some free upgrades, like polishing your internals, etc. Those should be enough to keep you going for a while.

forget the revy first off you dont nee one unless you get and RT or electro kit

you need a new barrel and and a drop forward
also i suggest a reg or x-chamber because the 98 is a gas hog and can take pure liquid

You can get ball jams even if you fire slow. Now that I have my revvy, I would never play without one.

Don't get an expansion chamber, get a good CO2 reg like the Mac Dev Gladiator reg or the Palmer Stabalizer. They will keep just as much liquid CO2 out of the gun as an expansion chamber, and they will regulate the pressure going in.

Like they said...the barrel MUST go.....my friend has the RT but hasn't put it in yet...i'll post on here to tell you how it works.

a BIG drop forward. 98s are too long.

You'll want an anti-siphon CO2 tank to go along with that.

I couldn't find a pic of a tippman98 with a drop foward, so I drew one instead. :D

see that dark grey thing that the arrow is pointing to? Well my pic isn't that good, but that piece of metal moves the C02 tank foward allowing a better balance for your gun. Just like what Whitey said.

Yeah, they are sanded internals, but it's not for higher flow. It's so that the gun operates more smoothly, so that it doesn't wear out as fast.

You will first want a new barrel (I recommend Custom Products barrels), then I would get a 12v revolution hopper, a drop forward, then I would get an RT kit and eventually compressed air. That would be a very kick *** tippmann :) And yes this is in the order I think you should get everything in.

He doesn't need a 12v revy for a m98. A 9v would be fine. Plus I would get a regulator or anti-siphon tank before that. It will make his gun so much more consistant. Revy is one of the later upgrades. I still don't have a revy.

Where did you find a 12 volt for $20? That's a great deal.

You want new grips, or a new grip frame? I'm assuming that you want new grips. Just get some Dye stickies.

Sandpaper comes in different grits. If you use some 600 grit, you should be fine.

What about a ƒlat Line Barrel?

Why doesn't anyone get that for their 98?

orryn

it is too hard to clean and only is good in the woods. Very over rated in my opinion. But then again so are the m98. They are still good guns though.

do you guys suggest getting a regulator a pressure cauge for youir tippmann? and if so what brand?

Team Invincble

get an rt or electro kit

Revelation911
07-22-2001, 06:57 PM
what is an rt? are you suggesting to not get a regulator and pressure gauge?

Revelation911
07-22-2001, 07:19 PM
sorry, i knew that just wasn't thinking. Rt = reaction trigger.

SandStorm

98s have real fast triggers for a low end semis, always go for the 12v, because 9volts are a waste of money in my opinion. You'll just end up upgrading later if you get the RT or electro kits or a good trigger job. A revolution is really important if you want to fire fast without chopping. They are a must for anyone who wants to fire in fast strings. Its just best not having to worry about chopping at all.

First thing, get a new gun if you wanna upgrade, the 98 field strip design is absoulutely stupid. It looks like something China would think of. Another thing, it annoys me to see people who pimp up a Tippmann. Do it to a better gun.
