I play back man and I am seriously thinking about a Shocker or an Impulse ... and I wanted to know which is better for back an Impulse or a shocker ... and if one is better, by how much is it better?

Both are good guns for back, but i believe impulses can shoot a little faster than shockers. This could very well be proven wrong with the '03 shockers though. They seem to be smaller than the older shockers, so the size wouldnt be much of a factor anymore. Do a search, there are a couple threads that go into more detail on the pros and cons of both.

I came off a cocker and shocker and I've been using a 2k2 Impulse (stats in sig) for my mid-back field gun it's been working great! No complaints here except the weight! Geez its like holding a baby in 1 hand for 5 hours!

dude for back, get a shocker all the way. i have an impulse and it's a good gun, but the accuracy is no where near a shocker. all that stuff about no gun being more accurate than another gun is bull****. cockers and shockers are the most accurate guns around. facefull magazine even said that the schocker is the most accurate gun ever made. last week i used my friends genx3 cocker to play back. i was nailing people all day long off the break. my impy was running at about 260fps with a perfect paint to barrel match and it was still not nearly as accurate as the cocker with a loose paint/barrel match. basically what i am saying is that the cocker was awesome for the back but the shocker is going to be even more accurate with extreme speed and an electro trigger with less chopping and double feeding, the only downside is that it might be a little heavy, go shocker all the way, they're extremely cheap at pbgear.com (425 rt feed 9v rev flex mask) they're practically giving them away. for some reason, the shocker is really underrated. i hope what i have said has helped.

a shocker is better for a back man, they shoot farther obviously, and are more accurate.... they are closed bolt.... its prolly 25% better then a fully upgraded impulse with lpr and 50% better then a stock impulse...

shockers are:
1)heavier so they have a more stable platform
2)closed bolt so they are far more accurate and have better range
3)gas hogs, but since you play back a 88 5000 wont kill ya
4)shoot slower-going to be an issue for back players
5)lower pressure so they are quieter and pinch balls
6) no eyes so ya they CAN chop but usually wont, especially with sumthin like a Halo t3
1,3,4,6 should all be solved with the 03 shocker

The new 03 shockers are going to be cool. A cocker and shocker are supose to be known for distance and accuracy. A lot of people think they are more accurate, but they deliver a slower rate of fire, this doesnt go for the 03 shockers. With the slower rate of fire your shots will have less drop off, and tighter groupings IMO and from experience. My old impulse was just as accurate as my cocker so thats not a problem. The new 2k3 shockers will be very small, half the size of the old, a lot faster, one of the fastest on the market when it comes out. The impulse is a perfect back gun. You can take it all over the field, but back is a good place. It can rip, not too heavey, and nice smooth firing.

I play back and I have a 2k2 vision imp. I love it. It is a kick *** gun for a back man (especially with a freak set) and it is a really good front man gun also. I would go with the imp over the shocker.

oooohhh the humanity...
are pbreview users becoming stupider or just more ignorant or possibly both?
i cant believe you ppl believe in the gun A is more accurate then gun B....
its paint to barrel match and air consistancy, for the love of all that is decent get it right! Only z-valves, flatline barrels, and bolts like the werm undertow affect distance....
the only reason i think people believe the shocker is so accurate is the fact that it is a very stable gun to shoot with a nice tank set up...

yayaya we all know what warpig says bout nothing affects how well ur gun shoots xcpet paint - barrel match and air consistency.... i for 1 and many other people say its total bs
there just must be some other strange coincidence that makes closed bolt guns shoot better than open bolt ones:finger:
m not sayin that i dont believe paint-barrel match and air consistency dont play a very big part... but that is NOT all there is in a good gun....
sooooooo, go play know-it all else where w/ other people like yourself

impys are IMO better and sexier. In paintball bigger is almost NEVER better.

not necessarily a long barrel is good for airball a big tank is good(i like 88 tanks :) ) big um rates of fire...

the shocker's only downfall is its limited rof.
the fact that the paintball is already out of the barrel before any movement from the gun cycling is what makes the shocker more accurate than the imp. the imp's bolt and hammer move before the ball is fired. movement = inconsistency.
i have both, they are both great guns.
the shocker will reach out and touch someone better than the imp.
the whole gun don't matter argument is tainted buy the fact the tests warpig and others publish have to many variables between the markers tested. not to mention they secure them in a vice, totally eliminating all gun movement.
in order for a test to be accurate the exact barrel would have to be used. the very same paintballs would have to be used. the guns would have to be tested at the same time to eliminate changing climate conditions.
the real question is"what is more important, volume or accuracy." cause the imp rips.
