ok im going paintballin in 2 days and i remember from last year my 98custom has a low veloicty problem and it wont go any higher i have been told to buy maddmann springs but i have no way of getting them within the next 2 days since my proshop has decided that they will not selling any thing but air fills now:pissed: so my question is will streching my drive spring help my velocity and will it hurt my gun in any way o and is the a certian length i should strech it to thx for any hlp

Stretching it will not help. However, if you find some sort of spacer that you can slip over the sping guide pin before you put the spring on, there will be more tension on the spring bringing up your velocity.

Stretching your drive spring out will indeed give you more volocity. I know this for a fact. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my M98C flatline was not getting the distancy and accuracy. I thought I was low on gas but the spring compress in the gun. I stretched it out and it works better than when I bought it new. I would not recommend spending money on madmann springs in my opinion only because they will compress any way, but that is your decision.:)

I wouldnt strech your spring out... it's only going to trash the spring. And after you strech it, it's only going to compress again, so your attempts at increasing velocity are wasted after your first couple of shots.

Do what Natural suggested , put some sort of buffer behind the spring. that will produce the best results.

Not to be cocky, but I know what I am talking about. Go take a physics class, stretching a sping will do nothing. And a Maddmann kit is very worth it for only $10.

ok i took my gun apart to try to figure out wut i could use and a spacer so i was playing around and i cocked my gun with out the recever half on it and noticed that there is not enough room in between the buffer oring and where the back of the bolt needs to come to so the sear can catch the bolt so that idea will not work, but if anyone trys this and figures out something to put in between there and it works plz send me a pm or put a post up and let the world know, im sure i will still try to figure away to do it but not now i have a game tommorow

What I mean is put a small spacer behind the spring. I will draw a pic in paint really quick. Stay online

actually im going to have to disagree.....if you stretch teh spring its going to make it harder to compress right? So, then it will have more force behind the bolt, holding teh valve open longer, releaseing more air, and firing the ball faster

They are linear springs, the length of them doesnt matter since their compression force is always the same. However when you put something behind it to shift the whole spring over that will have an affect on it. Im not a good explainer but basically when you put that spacer behind it. You are pre-loading the spring, so it will hit the valve pin harder and stay there longer. Stretching it wil "un-load" the spring, yes it will be longer, but it will not have as much force.

Basicly, If you strech your spring you will make it longer, but it wont be any stronger. After use i suspect that the spring will only compress back to it's original size.

Naturals idea about the spacer i beleave will work. It will move the spring forward, and keep it forword. and work better and more consistantly than streching or manupulating the spring.

yea, thats what you do on stingrays to increase the velocity :)
