View Full Version : Tippmann haters: there is a method to my madness

I haven't been playing for an extremley long time. When i decide to try out paint ball i had two options gun wise; Spyder and Tippmann (of course i was not going to choose brass eagle.) You don't jump into a sport buying the most expensive gun and i chose the gun that i felt had the best feel for me. I chose the tippmann. I relate upgrading a tippmann to working on cars. you don't start working on ferrari's, you start with mustangs. once i have upgraded the hell out of this then i will move on. hey, everyone needs a back up anyways. but once i get enough playing and repairing experience then i will get something better; like an angel or a cocker. so there is a method to my madness.
hmmm... i can see what you're saying. some people would call me crazy for trying to put a lot of stuff on a spyder but i enjoy it, it's kinda like a hobby of mine I guess. in about a year and a half I will be getting either some kind of low end cocker or cheap electronic. (thinking about the bushmaster, a friend of mine has one and it is AWESOME)

There is nothing wrong with the stock bolt on a Spyder. All you need to do is remove the venturi and you have a very high flowing bolt.

Then one day you wake up, and you realize you have put $500 or $600 into your tippmann. You realize that it still is big and ugly, and that it still just doesn't feel right. So, you sell it for half the value or less, and buy a nicer gun, which you should have done in the first place.

They are long, have fun with speedball bro. All I'm saying is this- Don't put too much cash into your tippmann. If you want good performance, get nitro and a new barrel and a revvy. Then, you can use most of that on a new gun so you won't be out alot of cash if you upgrade to something better.

Tippmanns may be ugly and kinda long, but there are some really kick @ss upgrades available for them (*cough* RT *cough*) and they are cheap.

That is quite an ignarent statement you got there. Keep using it, and keep getting flamed! :D Cheers

Upgrading blowbacks can be very beneficial. I started w/ a spyder compact 2k. Now i have a custom vert feed spyder.
- Bob Long Millenium Vert. Feed Body
- Mod Bolt (High-Flowing [took out venturi], Rear-Cocking, Cupped [for even air flow on the paintball])
- Modified side cocking to rearcocking
- KAPP 45 Cocking rod
- KAPP F/X Beavertail
- Dye Frame w/ fully adjustable trigger (trigger pull is at 1/16" currently)
- Dye sticky grips
- cp barrel
- dye xcel barrel
- cmi tru-flight
- 32* terminator
- higher flowing valve
- tougher o rings
- 16oz stubby anti-siphon co2 tank
- 20oz stubby anti-siphon co2 tank
- oiled and taken care of very well
Well this is quite a custom spyder...and it makes a great secondary.....if i cant get my nitro filled, i will have no complaints whatsoever that ihave to use my spyder w/ co2.
So your statement was completely unaccuarte.
This is a great spyder, and i had a blast working on it and upgrading it.
Cheers

Yes, I love it when people make such "ignarent" statements...
If you upgrade a blowback, it is still a blowback, I haven't seen one mod that changes a blowback into a non-blowback system. He's right, technically.

First off, E-LCD frames are way too much, and from what I've heard, crap...and an RT kit for a 98 is like 100 bucks, cheap. I'm pretty sure the RT is adjustable, and no electronics to worry about. If I bought another low end semi as a back up, it would be a pirahna w/ VF or a custom 98. PMI is good, Tippmann is good, its Kingman that I'm starting to wonder about. I am now sorry I recommended a spyder to my friend getting into paintball. But that is a whole other topic.

Yah kingman really needs to pull it together
but dont worry, i think this new frame they are making will go big (if it stays below 150$) and then things will be all good..why are they so STUPID!~ they need to visit paintball forums more...see how they are rated.......

His statement was not completely "unaccuarte" if such a thing can be said, if anything it was right on the money.

Well i guess i took his 'statement' differntly. Or IMO..i took his statement the way he intended it to be, which is All blowbacks, even though upgraded, are still blowbacks and are not good guns.
Sorry if i did not understand the basic idea of the post.
but an upgraded blowback can be a great gun..period.

stock spyders IMHO=a complete POS. The tolerances are terrible and Ive actually seen one fall apart on the field. That said, if you spend about $300 upgrading it you end up with a nice gun. Or you can do what I did and just get a mag. My only major complaint about tippmans is that they are a beatch to break down for complete cleaning. A friend has one with the rt and its a riot to hear it shoot full auto. I think he still has to use multiple pulls of the trigger, but basically it might as well be. Either gun will benifit immensly from a having a regulator, or set it up with hpa and do away with the whole pressure problem completely.
OT, there was just a friggin BAT in my bedroom. Ever try to catch a bat with a duffel bag? It's not too easy. I chased that sucker for like two hours and now I'm too hyped up to get any sleep.
if your gonna put 500-600 into a gun the you should buy a autococker or automag then upgrade it

I've seen all sorts of upgraded blowbacks before, tried alot of em too. Electronic triggers, low pressure, whatever. Sure you can make em incredible considering they're a blowback, but add electros into the mix and it still wont compare

To County Paintball: is it called the Angel killer?
I have one question to ask...why do ppl hate tippmann? Sure the stock sucks...but any blow back/low end semi stock barrel will suck. Field stripping unlike spyders that need it every single time after use...tippmanns can have it done every 2 to 3 times! And what about durablilty ask any Tippman owner....99% of the time the gun has shot in any weather on C02 & N2!! My friends have spyders and they always tell me i should have bought a spyder...but why? the first game we played you heard...kilp...kilp...nothing (didn't fire!) the bolt wouldn't recock!
So to the tippmann haters....work out your issues!

Heck, even stock mag barrels suck. i got rid of mine real quick. Tippmans are relatively problem free. I own 2 and like them both. I only ever use the pump because going from the mag to the 98 isn't much of a handicap, but the spyder/ cocker owners who have used my backup never seem to have any complaints. If you havbe an accuracy problem, play around with some new barrel/paint combos.
