Go to a sporting goods store and get yourself some JB Borepaste. Its the best barrel polish around. Take it easy on the sand paper or you will ruin your barrel. JB is non-embedding (it won't stick in the metal of your barrel) and it leaves your barrel super slick. I have used it on firearms, airguns, and paintball guns with great results.
Good Luck

The difference between a $30 barrel and a $90 barrel is usually the finish. A $90 won't need polishing usually, but a $30 can benefit. The reason they can sell that barrel for less is because they don't spend as much time getting a perfect finish. You can do that yourself with a polish. Keep in mind a polish does NOT involve 10 mins with 600 grit sandpaper-that will ruin your barrel. Keep away from the sandpaper unless its 1000 or 1200 grit, even then wet the paper. Your safest route is just to use real polish made for barrels.

NEVER USE SANDPAPER IN A BARREL!!!
USE NOTHING ABRASIVE
you take a 1/4 dowel cut it alittle longer than your barrel
cut abotu a 3in line directly from one end then take scrap pieces of clot and put polish on them then run the dowel up and down the barrel with it in a drill on high speed
do that with several pieces of cloth afor about 30min-and hour

Some polishes are more abrasive than sandpaper. I have heard some crazy stuff like using toothpaste or valve grind polish-Don't. Rubbing compound used for cars is a safe polish that is easy to find. I still like JB...

this is waht i did to polish my stock m98 barrel i took the bottom of a plactic coat hanger (u need to snap it off) and placed it on a hand held drill. then i just wrapped a towl or paper towl around it and stuck it in the barrel then held the button from the drill for likie 10 minutes going back and fort. Then when i took it out all i seen was black on the paper towel and it seemed to help.

get a 12 gauge shot gun saub a straight shot squdgee soem armoral and some hot soapy water. take the hot soapy water and run it down the barrell. take the straight shot and run that though there. then do that again. then getit all wet adn run that shotgun swab through there once. then wet the other end of the swab down with armoral. take it and run it through there twice. let that set oer night and then run the dry end of te swab throguh once or twice the next morning. this will also help the barrell clean itself. if you get a ball break the paint will bead up and if you dry fire a few times it wil clean it right out.
