i dont use one, those things are uncomfortable and i've yet to be hit super-bad in the neck (i've gotten some welts there, but no blood or anything) so for now, im set.

I don't wear one, but I bet that it'd hurt like hell to be hit there. I don't know what neck protectors you guys know of, but the only ones I've seen are these little flimsy ones that look like they wouldn't offer any protection.

I got hit just below my adams apple once and it made it hard to breath for a minute or two there. I still dont use a neck protector but I do have a piece of camo cloth hanging off the bottom of my mask. I definately recommend some kind of protection.

Funny story. About 3 weeks ago, me and a group of friends and regular paintball players went to Memphis and Paintball Park to play. Well, we had a newbie with us who had (2 days before) bought a Pirahna Pro G3. Well he saw all the high end guns and became intimidated. Well, I lent him one of my cockers and we played one on one so that I could prove it's more of the person's skill. I borrowed his Pirahna. I thought since he was a newbie I could just rush him Termie style. I wanted the match over and done with ASAP to show him how powerful an expierenced player with a low end semi could do. Well, needless to say, I was risking much since I wasn't even TRYING for bunkers. I just went after him. Well, I got him, and got him good. I aimed for low pain areas like the chest and thighs (I hoped he was wearing a cup). Well, the first reaction from him was to run from me, I still got him but as I did he fell back across a horizontal tube and started firing from reflex. Well the first shot hit the ground. The second hit the right side of my right knee. The third hit my right hip and the fourth hit me RIGHT in the right side of my neck, directly below the ear about 2 inches. Well, that HURT LIKE HELL. I had never been shot in the neck in the 4 years that I've been playing. Well, as for the question at hand. I think neck protectors are a good idea for beginners but us veterans, we NEED our battle scars. I wore that bruise as a badge of honor. Everyone was like "DAMN, I KNOW THAT HAD TO HURT" and I shrugged it off to expierence. Now wasn't that one weird story?

Its a tough choice.
Buy a 5 dollar neck protecter off ebay
or
Get hit in the adams apple, let your trachea collapse, and you cant breathe...
You decide

It's not that serious of a threat. If it was, neck protectors would be required. If you can't handle a collapsed trachea, then maybe you shouldn't play (j/k).
YEAH!! BE A MAN!! collapsed tracheas just come with the territory so suck it up, pun intended, and take it!

Well, My uncle was hit directly in the adams apple at point blank by mistake, he and my cousin were cleaning their markers and boom, trigger went, and my cousins ball just flew into his adam apple, he said that it wasnt the best thing to feel, but it wasnt a deadly pain either, so I guess if you dont want to walk around showing your honor badges, then you should get a protecter, but if you want the badges dont. So my conclusion is, if you feel special about getting wounds be happy! j/k it doesnt matter who hurts more to me, just as long as I shoot the ball that hurts the most!

Or instead of buying a neck protector and being a wuss, go out and practice. Then you won't get shot and you will learn to use tactics that protect your neck. Become more skillful, not more uncomfortable.

yea i think it'd be difficult to get shot in the neck. I never have been. You'd have to have your head tilted back for the front of the neck to be exposed, and I just dont let myself get shot from behind :D welp...maybe i do...:D But i wear a backwards hat that blocks it a bit I guess. I dunno, I dont think it would hurt that bad. A cup is way more important than a neck protector.
Restrictedarea, your cuzin should not have been cleanin his gun with it still cocked, no safety on, loaded.

I've got shot in the neck plenty times. Didn't hurt half as much as I assumed it would. I just wear a winter scarf, or not.

I use one and bought a JT neck protector..it was expensive tho!! 7 bucks or something....but i got it anyway for some reason..i think it may have come free w/ my mask or something.....but it is nice to have protection there but they are expensive so if you find a cheap one diefantly get one! otherwise use the rental ones :)
note: the jt neck protectors are great!! they are thin (which is good for comfort) but they take a lot of the shock so it doesn't hurt at all! i got shot like 15 feet away there and it didn't hurt at all ..maybe cause it bounced.
but i have also gotten hit there and it broke and it didn't hurt bad at all
Note: Countypaintball.com has JT Neck Protectors for $6.00. Not a bad deal. Check it out!

has anybody else noticed that if you wear protection for some part of your body, you never get hit there. However, the moment you remove the protect, you get pegged there?
Going by that rule of thumb, i wear a neck protector and protection for other important ( ) parts of my body.

just play naked that leaves your whole body open for being pegged. Therefore eliminating the chance of certain areas being more open for pegging , making the possiblity of gettin hit in the nards the same as gettin hit in the ear.
That only applies with your rule though orryn. So if you dont live by that rule, dont play naked.
