Keep the 98 as a backup, and buy the autococker.

Because if you upgrade the 98, then I would suggest buying another marker any ways.

For tournaments it's best you have a backup no matter WHAT marker you have. Because one day eventually something will go wrong. And you better have something to save your *** besides the "Hey Jim, my markers broke can I borrow yours?"

I agree with Meph.. the only problem is I think he's planning on selling his 98 and using that money to get the cocker. While I do agree with having some kind of backup marker, you're probably not going to be in that big of a jam unless you're in a tourney.

I'd say unless you have the money to spend to get the cocker and keep the 98, just keep the 98 for now until you feel there's reason to get the cocker. Just my $0.02

Are you going to be playing tourney???

I think a cocker is better for tourney play (personal opinion)...however

I also think you need a backup gun...no matter what you have...it WILL eventually let you down and if you are playing tourney...you cannot just "sit out" to fix your gun...you need something to get in there and play.

If money is a problem...you will probably only get around $100 for your custom...a cocker (cheap one) goes for around $300 without hopper. For the same money you could keep your custom as a backup and get an ($200) A-5. The A-5 can work as a tourney gun...and eventually they will get a LPA kit for it which will make it better yet...you would definitely need a different barrell (although I am told that the stock barrell can be good if you polish the inside of it.)

They both will work....eventually in tourney play you want a real tourney gun like an impulse or devil....or a high end cocker...all of these will run over $600 though.

yeah, my friends B2k2 broke down and he had his spyder compact as a back-up, and thanks to that compact their arse would ahve lost the dang tourney. even though they place 7th place for thier 1st tourney.

True, backups are needed, but aren't 98 customs one of the most durable, and reliable guns? I would upgrade the 98 custom and customize to whatever you want, so says my avatar. Then, if you feel one of the most reliable guns will break down, which it could, (all guns do sometime)get the autococker

And you should also take into consideration all the complicated mechanics of a autococker. Now i know some people say that that isn't the case, but for someone who is new at paintball and doesn't understand how a paintball gun fires, it can be your worst nightmare.

Unless you have a certified autococker proshop around, or think you can handle it, i would sit back and wait a while before purchasing it, and maybe try and get enough money for an impulse, they have simple construction, run great on anti siphon C02, and can be up and running with all the angels and whatnot for really "cheap."

(btw PM me if you want a website for a really good deal.)

I have an upgraded tippy (toxic double trigger, bigshot, d/f, x-core, and 12 volt revvy) and when I last went to my field last someone just got a new 2k3 cocker and he was letting people shoot it. So I shot and I loved it! IMO it is much better than my upgraded tippy. That is why I am now saving up for a 2k3 autococker!
keep your tippy though

cockers aren't decent, but i really don't like them,

oh, and a tippmann w/e-bolt isn't much different than an imp,

just get an autococker. Spending money just to customize your 98c could come to the cost of a low end cocker. I just bought an 03 bm and i'm keeping my 98c as a back up

yes, but that could also take the 98c into the performance range of a cocker, its all a matter of prefferennce.

everythign has SOME kick, cockers have little, but they do have some,

and i don't see why everyone thinks they are so fast, my friend had an 03 with a wgp cam and oracle pnues and it was not any shorter of a trigger pull than my tippmann was...

they shoot farther and harder than any other gun...
