if I was going to get one here are some thing to consider

the tippman are known for durability and not being so much of an excellent precision performer but a rock solid gun with a proven track record. Thats why fields like to rent these guns because they will take alot of abuse.Another plus to the tippman is now they can be had with a response trigge for close to full auto operation.

The spyder being a front runner in low to mid end guns has an endless gun which like the tippman can become a formidable tourney gun with a few upgrades and some work.
The spyder are almost always a rock solid performer but struggle somewhat when the temperatures get real cold... the
valve almost always freezes when too much liquid gets into the gun. However products to fit the spyder I believe far out weigh the tippman and parts for the spyder (rebuild kits) can be found even in sports authority.

All in all the guns seem to perform much the same with the exception of two accesories which stick out for the tippman the response trigger and the flatline barrel and while some may claim it doesn't add that much to the guns performance,
any performance gain whatsoever is good when you are toe to toe against your opponent. perceivably both guns are equal in performance without the stock trigger although in my own opinion without the response trigger i would stick to a regular spyder.

the spyder does have the electronic grip frames from BOO Yaah and Centerflag.

i still dont know what im going to get..
im leaning with the m98, i just want to know if the m98 can be converted to a tourney gun and if yes, is it going to be a good touney gun.

well, I just played for the first time today...

two on two...two guns were spyder tl+, the other two were m98, one with a flatline...

I would have to say, the flatline has an advantage is games with few people...it can just flat out go farther. Accuracy isnt' great at far distances though.

However, from far distances you can usually see the paintball coming and just move out of the way. I did that multiple times. That particular guy seemed to have a ball-break problem too...

It was about 40 degrees, so maybe that was it. I only broke one ball in about 700 or so, and it was right at the end of the day and it was a winterfill ball, with brittle shell, so that might have been the problem. The other m98 worked fine...

The flatline guy didn't win an unusual number of times...but it is intimidating when he bunkered up and we couldn't get near him.

Spyders by far will beat the M98. If you were looking for the best deal on a spyder, i would say that the Spyder 2000 is the best. It is extreamly acurate. In a field test done by paintballstar.com they fired of 40 rounds at a target 30 yards away and the shot grouping was around 5x7 inces, this was with the gun completely stock. While with the M98 they did 30 shots at 25 yards and it missed 5 times and had a grouping of 10x11 inches! The S2K also has a inclosed bolt. And a regulator. All you would need for it would be a good expansion chamber and new barrel and you are raedy to go and paint someones @$$!

all of you are missing his origional question, he stated "which gun should i get, the spyder TL plus or tippmann m98?" u guys are giving him answers thta dont include the tl plus. dude if ur choosing between the tl plus or m98 got for tl plus, it has way better upgrades out there and the gun wont fail u in feild stripping or shooting quality. plus the spyder is best for tournies, but u know what though these are all of our opinions and u should choose what u think would be best for ur shooting. good luck in your choice.

well both guns are good in there own way, frist off i like the TL better than the m98.Seems more paint shops where i live have more stuff form them, kits barrels etc.The indoor field uses M98 cause you abuse the gun. Where we do outlaw games at the shop brings them out for new people too use. But if i was going to spend the money i would get a piranha g2 sTs. but then you not asking about that gun.If you get the chance try too see if you can try out the gun,if one of the guys there has one see if you can use it for one game etc. That way you get a better feeling of them. Dont go by another guy shooting them. Cause some people are good players and dont matter what gun they use.And can make a crap gun look good. And that goes for real good guns bad players make them look bad. So try too get a chance and shoot the suckers frist
