Actually I believe they are needed for tournaments. Check out the rules for different tourneys to make sure. It's probably better to have one anyway. Keeps you from scratching the gogs.

most tournaments i've played require beaver tails, but that's really only a few :)

as ineffective as most beavertails are, yes, they're usally required pcs for your cocker... not scratching the lens is a nifty bonus, but that's not the point to having a 'tail on your gun ^_^

they are required for cockers in tournys, i forgot the exact reason but its so that the player cant tamper with somthing...like i said i forgot :D

its so the players cant thump the cocking rod to shoot hot. its only required for autocockers in most tourneys

took the stinking beaver tail offa my spydy and it looks a lot cooler, dont know the rules but it looks a lot cooler.
