I am thinking about getting a gun soon, i have been looking around again since ive been out of the scene for a while. I noticed that alot of companies seem to be going toward electros, is that the way of the future? Also, I'm more of a back player and or "sniper".

Basically I have been looking at the tippman A-5, black dragun's, Pirahnas, used or possibly new cockers and automags and a RainMaker (Don't bash, its kicks *** for its price). I'm open to basically any suggestions as long as they are reasonably priced.

Also cockers seem to be extremely popular, yet they are not electros, whats the deal?

Thanks

Big_Red the new thing for cockers is the E-Blade trigger witch makes them electro, so they have the speed and accuracy. But I would personally stay away from a cocker for a first gun if you like to screw around with them... since you can cause a lot of problems, mags are a great first gun.

actually all markers are pretty good choices for beginner markers - yep even a cocker. basically every marker will need you to read throught he instructions. the cocker isn't too complex once you've read the manual, the hardest part about owning a cocker is probably retiming the gun.

cocker owners love their cockers but they hated the fact that they couldn't shoot at the same speed as an electro. now they have the racer frame and eclipse eblade which will allow them to shoot the same speed but these frames cost about $400 - the price of a new marker.

there isn't a such thing as a marker too good for a beginner.

it's more of a matter of how sure you are that you're interested in the sport and how much $ you're willing to spend. you don't really want to spend $500 when you just started paintballing. a lot of people end up spending a lot of money only to decide the sport isn't for them after 2 or 3 months.

no real such thing as a sniper unless you're planning on playing a lot of recball and scenario games. if you want to be a back player, you sould definitely go with an electro marker.

you're right.. rainmakers are actually pretty sweet markers, i owned one in the past, pretty nice for a brass eagle. but hard to find nowadays. plus, they don't perform as fast or as well as the less expensive markers out there today.

definitely go electro and get a new barrel if you plan on getting a low end e-marker. a lot of people in this forum especially caleb will recommend the cp one piece barrel for $40

you can get your hands on a variety of low end markers ranging from $80-150

some that i recommend are:

m3 black dragun compact $80
m3 black dragun 2003 compact $90
spyder esprit $90 (prefer the compact 03 more though) $90
spyder e99 $150
spyder flash classic $150

you'll probably need a fast loader. most people here including myself will recommend the empire reloader. www.paintballgateway.com has it listed in the super sales for only $40 which is a real bargain! a lot of people have been talking about the hopper for the past few months, let alone the recent price drop that occued yesterday

Thanks for the replys.

nycpb: yeah i agree with you, i don't want to spend a fortune because of the chance i will stop playing, but I want something that will be decent, since i just got worked over Saturday by some navy guys with A-5's, cockers, and spyders. I like the idea of being able to tag someone with a few well placed shots from a distance, wiill this be possible?

Thanks for the marker suggestions also, both brands have alot of upgrade options right? And is one better than the other, cuz they are suppose to be very similar?

Thanks again, and keep the replies coming!

Oh, and if I can find a select fire Rainmaker on Ebay for around 125 should i get that?

I don't think so.

What part don't you agree with? Because if you just don't like it cuz it's BE, just shut up and go away I already said I don't want anyone bashing it for that reason.

red - you play in the woods mainly? if you're playing the woods and don't want to spend much, get yourself a tippmann 98 custom, tippmann model 98, tippmann procarbine, or spyder e99 if you want to play OUT OF THE BOX.

h050 - you've definitely never owned or used a rainmaker so hush  the rainmaker actually had A LOT of talk for a while when it first came out about 4 years ago. it was electronic, low cost, and capable of handling 13bps. at that time, the only other electronic markers were the angels!

brass eagle's definitely got my support on the rainmaker. the ONLY problem with them was that they were SLIGHTLY louder than the majority of other markers. by the way, don't you know brass eagle owns companies like jt and viewloader?

are you implying that jt and viewloader make crappy products?

ignorant assumptions from people who just follow the word of mouth

Intimidators didn't exist when Rainmakers came out.

Viewloader and JT guns are manufactured by Brass Eagle and have a JT/VL name slapped on them. They are all crap. Each and every one of them.

I would advise a Black Dragun if you want to play out of the box.

Ok guys, thanks for the info.

So it sounds like it would be better to invest a little and see if i keep playing, than get a nicer gun from the start.

I still have my eye on a Rainmaker, lol. But those Black Dragun's seems pretty nice also.

mmm well, a rainmaker was a pretty nice marker but even though i liked it, it is a thing of the past. for the price you can get a much lighter marker with a bit more options.

big_red im about to PM you again

So if I got a 2003 Compact, what would i need? A bottome line kit? Regulator?

And can this shoot 20bps like the 2003 LCD?

Thnx

20 bps with a compact?? is that possible??? I don't think so...And REd, what kind of player are you and what do you want exactly to have? Speed? Compact? Accuracy?

Big_Red

Well the 2003 LCD are spose to actually shoot 20 bps.

Homer: I'm not really sure what kind of player I am but, I like the idea i like the idea of "sniping" even though its kinda impossible, and I enjoy laying down cover fire for people also, so I guess thats more of a back type player? I would like a gun with good accuracy and decent speed, but I don't really mind pulling a trigger.

Another thought is to go up into the $250 range and get a Bushmaster BKO. It takes N2 so you'd have to get a separate tank putting you more into the $400 range total but all said and done it's a cheap electro that 's competetive right out of the gate. It also has a decent resale (unlike tippmans or spyders) and saves you from upgrading later down the line.
