View Full Version : Blaming the Product

Have you ever noticed how people often blame the equipment on their problems? I just read a review where the guy said the product sucked so much that he got taken out off the break. How do you blame something because someone else was faster or just lucky?

Also, I'm always hearing about people saying how they took out a "whole team of tippys" because tippmann 98's suck so much? (i'm not flaming tippamann, I in fact have a 98Custom). I mean, how do people judge the player's skill by the gun they have. They are saying that they could take out Bob Long if he played with a talon but would totally lose to Johnny Newbie who has never even heard of paintball before but got a Angel IR3 for his birthday.

Anyone have any ideas why this is done so much? And if you know you have done it, why did you do it?

Most of the people at my field judge talent by the cost of his gun and the overall look of his gear (jerseys, pants, etc.). Their basic reasoning is that if he's willing to put that much money into paintball, chances are that he's pretty good at it and has been playing for a while. But I've never seen anyone at my field diss or support a particular brand, except for Angels and Autocockers (which are pretty much the two most common guns here).

Please note, this doesn't include 10-12 year olds with Angels.

my old cocker choped, my old tippmann froze up even with nitro, my impulse chops. i think its the products fault hence why i have a mag and selling the impulse to get a gun that also wont chop(a matrix or a gz)

I agree with you Rasco. A lot of emphasis is put on appearance and cost (often hand in hand), but I have always been of the opinion that if something you shoot at somebody with looks "cool" or "beautiful" then you really need to get your mind checked...Now I will admit, if you are all about putting fire into one area at a high ROF in an attempt to score one lucky hit, then an Angel will be betetr than a Tippmann, but if you're like me and prefer more controlled firing with higher odds of hitting somebody, then really an Angel or autococker isn't that great from my experiences...I think it depends on your style of play on whether or not the gun makes or breaks you because let's face it, there are times the more expensive guns (like I said before) will have one over the cheaper lower end gun.

I think part of it is peoples tendency to blame anything other than themselves for thier problems.

YOu get the kids who say "the only reason you shot me is you have that sniper setup" when your shooting a cocker and they think it shoots farther. Or that "my gun sucks it wont shoot straight" when they are using BE paint Co2 and the stock barrel etc...

Most people at my field blame their gun on why they chop, not that they are outshooting the loader, have a bad paint to bore match or are using super brittle paint in a HP marker. Thoose 3 things make up about 90%+ of chopping issues in my opinoin.

I'm not saying the gun/equipment doesnt make a differnce its just not as big of differnce as people think. Heck look at cockers for example, considred a mid-high end marker. But you take a stock cocker(or heck just about any cocker that doesnt have a electro conversion) vs a nice blow back electro, and the blowback electro will have a higher ROF, and similar consistency(with a reg) and accuracy. But people prefer cockers for the feel and how customizable they are(at least I do).

Ok, heres my story where i judged the player by the marker. My second time playing, there were these kids who came in with automags, cockers, and 1 angel. I was afraid to play them because before the first time i played, i did major reserch on the sport so i wouldn't be completly clueless, so i did know cockers mags and angels are top of the line markers. Well, i went ahead and played them with my Viewloader Triton (same thing as the BE Avenger), and i took out the angel kid and two cocker kids. I ended up being taken out by my own teamate who was aiming at someone else.

But then again, a few weeks ago, at my local field, a guy comes in with a complete DYE setup. I mean comeplet dye. Invision mask, reflex cocker, jersey, 3+2 pack and pods, pants, shoes, and even socks. I wouldn't be suprised if his underwear was dye. Well i figured he was a rich dye freak or something so in the first game i played against him, i thought i would be able to take him out. He lit me up! But later i took him out so its not like his cloathing justified him.

to tell you the truth, i have no gun problems with my tippmann 98Custom. i think if you keep your gun in good condition, it will be fine.

i think when people say their out because of their gun, either then don't take good care or the just are saying to to make up a excuse why they got out ( Very common with young kids with nice guns). Most of the good guys out the field has fast spiders and good paint
