I've seen several impulses with a guage installed onto the back (right below hammer cap). i was wondering if any could tell me what that does. what pressure does it measure? it only works with a LPR?

Its downstream from the regulator, so it would measure the output of your reg. You could take the gauge off you max-flo and mount it there. It does not only work w/an LPR. It'll measure whatever amount of pressure is inside the gun.

i guess its easier when chronoing so you keep turning your gun to the side to see make sure you dont go over.

how would you install it? just unscrew the brass screw in the back and loctite a guage in?

It measures two different things depending on your set up. If you do not have an LPR, then it measures the input pressure from your regulator. If you do have an LPR, then it measures the LPR pressure. Either way, it measures how much pressure is going to your solenoid.

A gauge there is fine, but it's better served measuring the regulator input pressure. The LPR pressure will always be lower than the input pressure, and really doesnt matter unless you care, but there's no technical bonus for putting a gauge there. If your LPR is too low, then your gun wont fire and you dont need a gauge to tell you that. What I, and apparently now the Evil Impulse as well, do is put the PRV there. Its kinda funny, but combined with an LPR, I can input 215-230 psi into my gun, drop use the LPR to lower the pressure, the PRV still protects the solenoid but I increase my efficiency a great deal.

The back plug is glued in with red loctite. If you use a blow dryer on it, then unscrew with an allen wrench, it should come out. Be careful though, the solenoid is right under there and could be damaged. Use loctite (not teflon!) to place the gauge into the port, and then you're on your way.

i would use a 90* elbow cause ur going to have a heck of a time getting ur hammer out (atleat i think) but then it defeats ur purpose of haveing it

would it get in the way even with the tiny little gaugaes that are about the size of a nickel?

the guage would have to be about the size of the width of a AAA battery

Very true. I was thinking in terms of a PRV. Granted, putting a gauge there is pretty useless. It doesnt tell you anything you need to know. The only reason to have a gauge on the gun would be for recharge rate/drop off, or to make sure you're not putting too much air into the solenoid (which is why you have a PRV).

I dont feel that putting a gauge anywhere on an Impulse other than on the side of the asa (where it fits) is of any use or even particularly asthetic. A PRV is perfect for the spot you're thinking. I dont know why Im pushing the PRV so much, except that no impulse should be without one, and if you move it to the back, and have an LPR, you can get some crazy good efficiency.

where could i get a PRV?

directly from Smart Parts. Best way to get any spare part.

what does it look like? is it like the brass nut that sticks out in the front of the vertical adapter on vertregs?
