I have heard that some military organizations and police forces use paintball guns for certain types of combat training. There are a few websites that sell these guns for outrageous prices.

I was just curious as to how the training sessions work.

Do the guns fire at higher rates of speed? It seems as if they'd have to shoot a lot faster to simulate live fire.

Do they use standard .68 caliber paintballs?

Do they fire with standard compressed gas systems (CO2 or N2/HPA) ?

Im sure that there must be a few military men out there who know something about this.

Oh, yea, i almost forgot.......what are "Airsoft" pellets?

When law enforcement or military uses paintball they use standard gun, using co2 and wear the same masks. There are some paintball guns only made for law enforcemant and you have to be the department's weapons officer to buy them. Such as the AGD Sydarm.

Airsoft guns are guns that fire small plastic pellets using air to propell them. These guns look just like real guns. They come in spring powered, gas powered and Elecro powered. They are almost all imported from Asia. it is played as milism.

Airsoft is horrible in my opinion for training and paintball really is not that good for realistic police training. The best is what is known as simunition. They are special rounds fired from a realgun with a special modification. The round is about the consistancy of lipstick. This is what most departments use.

I bet it hurts. Have you ever been hit during your training?

No, I train with the SWAT guys sometimes. But my Sgt. won't let me get shot with simunition. It apparently does not hurt at all since they wear flac jackets or dudy body armor.

Advanced Tactical Systems (www.adtacsys.com) makes these guns called the AT 85, AT 10, AT 16, and AT 4. They run of of clips instead of hoppers and they have realistic sound and muzzle flash. They look and feel like real firearms and can shoot about 15 bps full auto with compressed air. I know the Marines and some National Guard base did some experimenting with them and were very pleased. The AT 85 and AT 10 are available to the public. To see some really cool hardcore milsim stuff, visit rustyspaintballgear.com And yeah the police did use the AT 85 to hose some criminal once. The balls were loaded with some kind of consentrated pepper powder. OW.

CS filled paintballs are not used for combat training. They are used as less leathal alternatives.

police and other agencies tend to use plastic water filled balls for training. The same balls can be filled with just about anything. Check out http://www.pcpaintball.com for some info. As for the military, I'm sure it happens, but the whole time I was in I never saw it.

What kind of muzzle velocities do these training sessions see? Surely it would be much greater than 300fps. Im sure that It could get quite dangerous at close ranges if the trainees aren't using body armor.

Police agencies, like I said usually don't use paintball for training. When they do it is standard paintballs (sometimes watter filled) and less than 300fps.

I saw something on tv showing that caps are starting to use paintball guns loaded with: either the worst body odor imaginable paintball or pepper powder paintballs. it was crazy they were testing them on this guy. he had no padding and he was about 20 feet away, and they wipped out around 20-50 rounds on full auto right into his chest. It was funny as soon as they hit he was down on the ground either blind and coughing or ready to puke his guts out.

personally i wanna try some of those pball out

The Army uses MILES for combat trianing. It's a Hi-Tech lazer tag system were soldiers wear several sensors and their weapon is outfitted with a lazer device. Weapons fire blank ammunition that cause the lazer to fire. MILES definitly makes trianing realitic, but it's heavy as hell.

MILES is junk. There are so many ways to cheat it, especially when you run out of ammo. It is bulky, half the sensors don't ever work, and blank ammunition leaves way too much carbon build up on the bolt and gas tube of the M16.

I agree, I will be happy to see the Army replace it, but until then I guess were stuck with it.

Couple months back I show a program on TLC or Discovery about Soviet Special Police. They were using paintball equipment to pracitce in VIP protection.
