View Full Version : How Can One Save Up For a New Gun?

I always say I'm gonna save up for a new gun but I can never do it. Every penny I earn ends up going towards me paintballing every/twice a weekend. I was just wondering how all you guys save up for your new guns. I'll start setting aside money but then I get so bored I just spend it all on going again. How do you guys save up for new gun/upgrades?

Don't go every/twice a week. If you're bored, play video games. works for me. :D

all my upgrades come from gifts or the ocassional large job, like the freak came from my last programming job, but now that I ref I play for free so my $30 a month allowance can be saved now =D Look for odd and end jobs like painting your house etc. Christmas is allways good too =D
EDIT: Whats important though is that your having fun, would you rather get a new gun or play? It sounds like its one or the other so think hard!

If you are not old enough for a paycheck, ask your neighbors if they want thier lawns mowed for ~20 a month. Its cheaper than most gardeners and if you get enough lawns mowed you can make quite a bit.

That's a good idea but I would have to mow their lawns 4 times for 20 bucks. If they have a big lawn that's not really satisfactory. I asked for a job at the field but he said no cuz im only 15. That sucked. But anyways I'm really not sure I might try to get a good gun for cheap from the dudes at my field who have like 20 guns. I'm shoting a BKO right now and it's just not enough for my level of play.

How is the bko holding you back? Give me some specific details and i can probably name an upgrade or two to take care of it.
I can't amagine what could be wrong with a bko to make you choose to stop playing to save money to replace it rather than playing.
You could buy a chaos chip and set bko at 9bps. That would save you money on paint and reduce chops drastically. Also pay attention to how you play. Keep in mind it doesn't take 50 paintballs to keep someone in their bunker.

I used to use my Pirahna against high end electros all the time.
Maybe you need to work on your game before your gun. Unless, of course, it's a blender or something. If it is, Hoplon will hook you up :P

yea it is your BKO's fault buying all that paint... wasting all that paint... buying more paint... its an endless cycle of wallet decapitation... just buy a pro-carbine and the 9lb trigger will force you to slow down... just ask anyone who owns one... like me... heh ur hand will fall off of a muscle spasm before you can empty ur hopper.. or you could get a job not play as much play more conservatively start ebaying...
in the end theres only one effective way to make the money.... gambling!

I've applied for a few jobs but I never get them cuz there is plenty of people older than me who want jobs. I really don't waste too much paint. I shoot about 1300 a day. Is that really that bad?

I had a job at a grocery store when I was 15.

Maybe I'm just real ugly... that's why no one will give me a job. A paper route would be a good idea except we don't have paper routes here. We have fat old ladys in 1963 mustard colored nissans.
To Hoplon:
Consistency: My BKO is like + or - 9 right now and that just won't cut it. I'm trying to fix this by getting a Bob Long Torpedo reg, and a new Zenitram asa block with tapped volumizer and a FMD rock. If you have any suggestions, name em. Also I have no blowback.
Accuracy: Umm i'm getting a CP barrel kit. That should solve this.
Problems: My set screws keep sliping, even though I've Taflon taped them twice. I'm not sure why this is.
Kick: This is kind of annyoing.
Thanks for any help you may have!

If you are using cheep paint or a stock barrel swap that out before you go replacing regs. I'm betting that your problem is a poor paint to barrel match. Also if the gun has less than a case in it the seals haven't broken in yet. It will get better.
Accuracy: Umm i'm getting a CP barrel kit. That should solve this. Just make sure whatever barrel you get matches your paint. I recomend matching paint up Agd's style before you buy the barrel if you have the opertunity. http://www.automags.org/resource/tech/tomstech/02_boresize.shtml
Problems: My set screws keep sliping, even though I've Taflon taped them twice. I'm not sure why this is.
Teflon isn't going to hold the set screws in because they don't have any tension on them. Buy some purple loktite(weak grade). I don't recomend you use anything stronger because the screw is too easy to strip.
Kick: This is kind of annyoing.
Turn the lpr out until the gun won't cycle. Slowly turn it up trying to shoot as you go. Go 1/4 turn past where it starts cycling. Then use the hpr to set the velocity. You will have to adjust the lpr some to get the desired velocity. This method will reduce chops and cut recoil. Just keep tweeking it until you get it where it works for you. If you set the lpr too low your consistancy will be horrible.
Thanks for any help you may have!
I hope some of this info is useful to you.

Well, I'm 13 and play for a sponsored team (whole sale paint is all I ever have to pay.... even for tournies), and I get $30 a week for mowing my lawn (pretty big lawn), and about $70 a week from mowing my neihbors' lawns. That's $100 a week, and I use about $60-$80 a week to play (back player) and the rest is food and entertainment money, unless I'm saving up for a gun or upgrade (but even then I get it cheap hehe), then I set it aside. I also have invested my guns wisely since I got a cocker 2 years ago; I've gotten as much as I could out of each gun when I sold it or traded it for something better. I haven't really lost money on any gun I've had (3 or 4 cockers, an impulse, an angel, a tippmann, and now a timmy)

give me a break at the age of 14 100 bucks isn't good? I mean within 3 months of work you can buy an autococker...........Well right now i have 1,000$ of spending money so i don't care......:blah:
Mr. Kitty
05-21-2003, 04:04 PM
I'm trying out for a sponsored team. If I make it then I'll be spending like 15-20 bucks a day. That will solve the problem. I know 150 a month is good its just that its not good enough for me to go paintballing every week. I go every two weeks and I really want to go more.
I'm not selling the BKO. If I get a new gun, the bKO will be backup. It's a pretty sweet little thing for the price. I would have thousands of dollars in spending money but then I wouldnt play as much and that wouldnt be good.
