Scott Bad a** mask provide very good protection. They cover your entire face and neck.

I have the JT Nvader. It offers very good protection for all of the face and sides of the head. It's made out of hard plastic, so like Jak said, being shot there won't hurt at all. It doesn't really cover the neck too much, which is a good thing since you want your head to be able to move around so you can see your surroundings. Just buy a neck protector for about $10 and you'll be set. Plus the Nvader itself is a pretty cheap mask (I got mine for #21) which combined ($31) is much cheaper then the bad arse mask.

I wouldnt recommend the Proteus, it's a really small profile and basicly offers no throat protection, Flex-7's are good and so are Nuviz's.

if ya ask me, the safest masks have gotta be VForce shield or morph.. shield more though, it comes with chin strap (anti - goggle lift, good for n00bs and crap), chin strap, hard plastic, and great removable lens sytem... this should be in teh mask section, though.

I have a nuvis and an nVader, both are excellent masks. The nVader offers more protection to the foruhead, jawline and throat than the nuvis. Jt also has started putting thermal lenses in the nVader masks, another bonus. But the nuvis offers a much wider field-of-view. It is also more flexible which can lead to bounces instead of breaks.
I would highly recommend the nVader to any beginner who's looking for an inexpensive mask.

i have the nvader and it is hard plastic, and the ventaltion holes are small so the paint wont go thru onto your face. and if uve ever seen someon wearing it,tis really big,not one of the more compact masks.

I have a old JT X-fire thermal mask. Thing takes hits like a volvo, very nice. The bad thing about it though, I think the mask has been discontinued by JT
