yeah well I read the thread about retreating and I was just wondering what stratagies other teams use to give covering fire while falling back........
what I did was I chose my co-captain to be the one to give everyone else covering fire while they fall back (cause he has an e-mag everyone else's marker sucks compared to his) ........ cause when me and my team used to practice, if we were going to retreat it never worked, everyone either gave covering fire or nobody did....... it just plain old sucked..... so now the co-captain of my team gives covering fire for everyone else while they fall back and then we give him cover so he can run back........ it works best that way and if he get's hit before we fall back then I'm the next one to give covering fire...... I like this method but I wouldn't mind hearing others that you guys use so my team could try them out, too.

When you fall back definately DO NOT turn and run. I have seen so many people do this and all that it gets them is a shot in the back. Fall back by walking backwards, have your marker ready to return fire if your fired upon. If your with a group still walk backwards you will see balls coming at you and might be able to dodge them. Also you and your buddys can cover your retreat so it just gives you more people to shoot more paint out to cover your retreat. I hope this make sense.

i have noticed it hard to eliminate someone runnig away from the shots, since the are basically runnig with the shot, the usually bounce . . . this is just my experience im sure it doesnt always happen . . . i dont think i ever fall back, i just fight from where i am until i get eliminated. . .;)

ok buddy.....theres one major lesson in pball ive learned, when to back down. By staying in one spot and not retreating ull just get surrounded when you should really retreat, and ur more help to ur team alive than dead. ALso retreating can be very good. It makes the enemy come straight for you...it normally gets everyone on the other team coming for u in one direction, it also helps your team regroup and get back into formations

it really depends on the situation, i am talking about if some one is walking toward me, i am not going to turn and run . . . but if they move to a bunker than has a wide angle on me and i have the chanve to move i will

The style I use on large wooded fields requires that I fall back.

You shoot i run back
I shoot you run back.
i just noticed this...this was made 3 years ago...but hey, still info is good if anyone asks.
Sounds like you play in the woods, so asuming that you do, this might help. It might have to be adapted a little depending on what kind of gear your team uses. If you are walking down a trail, path, or just moving through the woods trying to reach your objective and meet the enemy, everyone stop and duck, have your point man lay the cover fire, and I mean lay into the trigger as fast as he possibly can and spray the heck out of whoever is shooting at you. The idea is just to keep their heads down. When he is out of paint, he falls back and the next guy in line takes over, meaning it is his turn to shoot. The point man falls back to a suitable position that is defensible. Once the second guy in line is out of paint, he falls back, and the guy behind him takes over. You do this until everyone has fallen back to the new position. For the last guy covering, whoever has ammo in the new position covers him while he falls back. The idea is, you keep up a constant fire, and hopefully keep your opponents head down long enough to fall back. It uses up lots of paint, but I think will work. For a five to ten man unit, it should take no longer than a 1-2 minutes to do the whole thing, maybe 3, but if it took that long you would probably end up dead. may or may not work, I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

The tactic described by 167 is universal to any version of paintball you play: speed, hyper, or woods ball. You set up two flankers to lay down enough fire to keep the other team's gunners under cover and then have your guys fall back one by one, reforming so as to best amass enough firepower in one area.
I have to disagree with the idea of not turning your back. Yes, it is unwise to completely turn away from your opponent, but if you have ample cover fire, face forwward, shooting backwards glances. REMEMBER: IT IS FASTER AND EASIER TO RUN FACING FORWARDS THAN BACKWARDS. When you're taking fire, speed is essential. Also, zig-zag: harder to draw a bead.

I don’t know if this tactic works in paintball. Never got around to trying it in a game. I sort of liked the idea off of the movie “Tears of the Sun” Where if you are ambushed you don’t take cover you pretty much push back at the opposing team so your team will not be pinned in and eliminated. I also thought the fall back tactic might be useful. The team starts to fire. One team member taps the other team members shoulder just before he falls back. Then he leaves. Now the other team member taps the next guy after a few seconds to let him know he is falling back and son on. Mean while the ones who have fallen back have gone about maybe 30-50 yards back setting up a new line to fall back from.
Anyhow let me know if you think this tactic could work that well in PB.
