Hi, I know this should belong on the TV thread thing that was going around, but it seems to have died out.
There's a new show coming out on Comedy Central, "I'm With Busey" in which some young writer follows around his idol, the film star Gary Busey.
Anyway, one of the clips I saw of this show had the two main people playing paintball in the desert. They were wearing helmets and JT goggle frames ... but no face ear protection. :pissed:
When will these idiots learn!?!?!?!:pissed: :pissed:

and when will you idiots who just complain about paintball on TV learn.
Just worry about wearing you mask and stop worrying about what people on TV do.

What do I have to learn? I want my sport to be portrayed in a positive light, not as a dangerous war game that these shows portray it as.
Ask yourself what good can come out of this.
Now some kid is going to see "I'm with Busey", go out to walmart/kmart,etc. and buy a marker. He or she will see a mask and think "nah, they didn't wear one on TV, so why do I need to wear one?" That person will then go out to fool around with his friends and then get seriously injured.
Injuries and stuff like this can lead to court cases and public unrest, which in turn can lead to the banning of paintball in your area. What would you do if something like this happened and paintball and the selling of paintball items became illegal where you live?

Thats why they hace the warning on every gun to wear a mask.
If someone fools around and gets hurt thats their problem.

Although they cannot sue the paintball company that made their equipment, an incident like the one I listed above can lead to public unrest and the banning of paintball in certain areas.
I don't see the logic in your argument, obviously you wouldn't be a very good diplomat for our sport.

who said i was looking to be a diplomat?
it is a warning and it is their problem if they get hurt.
But sorry if you don't understand that it is getting annoying reading so many posted about how paintball is portrayed so badly on TV.

You can solve that problem through not reading threads against the negative portrayal of paintball on TV or by not posting on them.
I was just trying to get my point across that considering Paintballs vast popularity, and the recent problems faced by programs that have showed it negatively, Hollywood should have learned by now that unsafe paintball is bad.

Well, any parent that lets there young children watch Comedy Central deserves to have an injured kid..

Yea I thought that writer pansy guy had a mask on when I saw the commercial...
gizmo8z, dont you think that if the kid has to go to walmart to buy a gun, his parent would drive and accompany him considering any idiot who plays paintball without a mask regardless of whatever TV tells you is probably too young to drive?
If they are old enough to drive and go buy a paintball gun, and actually repeat what TV told them to do and not wear a mask, I'm not so sure they deserve the protection of a mask and maybe should be taught a lesson. come on, there are warning labels all over the freaking box and sometimes the guns too. And when I went to buy my first gun at Walmart, the guy at the desk wouldnt let me buy a gun without buying a mask because I had already told him I didnt own one.
o btw, I personally cringe every time I see bucey's ugly face. He isnt funny AT ALL, he's so non-funny that I feel like freaking watching Barbara Walters or something.

If the guy doesnt buy a mask he'll end up at a field and they'll make him wear one. Or if he goes outlaw someone there will go off on him. The only real way is if he and half a dozen other idiots some how meet up.
I must agree with giz though in the fact that paintball is not correctly portrayed on TV and movies. That may change soon though since several major actors such as Arnold Swartzasoiauygoiufsdhguhnager and Will Smith just got into Paintballing so the word will spread.

Will Smith too? lol. Where did he play?

Thanks for agreeing with me Havoc.
I didn't see if the annoying writer kid person was wearing a mask or not, but Busey was most defiantly NOT wearing a proper mask.
I will admit that anyone with common sense will see the labels posted on paintball products about safety and buy a mask. However, I can at least remember a few times where I have gone to kmart/walmart, etc. pretended I knew nothing about paintball and asked people there (other people buying gear or employees) about what to buy, and they've totally blown off the idea of wearing a mask. In addition, how are people going to know to buy a mask when half the time the 'mart stores don't have masks in stock?(I don't know about the stores in your area, but this is common near me.)

I remember reading somewhere (PB2X I think) that Will Smith hired some professional players to teach him and a group of his friends how to ball.

If some kids were smart, they wouldnt believe everything on TV.
And also it wouldnt be paintballs fault because he didnt follow the instructions in the instruction manual. it says to ALWAYS WEAR FACE PROTECTION SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR PAINTBALL. it also says its not a toy. and they wouldnt sew paintball, they would have to sew the TV show.
get it? at least it wont be paintballs fault:)
but i do agree w/ you gizmo.

I never said it was paintballs fault, I'm trying to say that show like I'm With Busey portray our sport incorrectly and in a negative way. This incorrect portrayal can lead to bad things!

Yes you are corect in the sense that it CAN lead to bad things.
But the fact is is that of all the people that watch that show only a few will do something stupid with a paintball gun.
There is always a chance of that happening but if you think about it almost all of the people that watch that stuff don't do something stupid like play without a mask.
And f someone doesn't know the differrence between shows on Comedy Central and reality they deserve to be hurt

No matter what, one incident can lead to the banning of paintball.
It only takes one delinquent kid to make a drive by shooting; it only takes one kid, shooting one ball to hit some unsuspecting person causing blindness, deafness or death; it only takes one person to shoot some innocent pet. No matter how low the possibility, these things can happen, and shows like I'm with Busey aren't aiding in preventing these slim possibilities from occurring.

if a kid went to kmart/walmart and bought a stingray and a mask, that doesnt mean he'd use the mask. kids are stupid enough these days to light themselves on fire, get hit by a car, etc (jackazz copycats). it doesnt take the whole paintball community to do something stupid, all that is needed is one stupid person imitating what they've seen/heard and lose an eye or get injured in someway. it's not gonna ban paintball worldwide, but could get paintball banned in a certain area and reflect paintball negatively in other areas.

You can't keep tabs om everyone that plays paintball and no matter what is said in this thraed the stupidity of people will continue.
All we can do is keep on playing paintball the way it is supposed to be played and not be like them.
I know paintball could be banned in certain areas but if the true paintballers just play the way it is supposed to be played the community will notice and they will realize that the people who play with out masks and shoot at cars, houses, people, etc. Are not playing it right and will not connect them with the reputation of paintball.
All my family members know how paintball is supposed to be played and when they see that people shoot other people like that they know that they are just stupid and they do not even consider their actions to be in any conection with paintball.
So how about if we all just play hard and play safe. We can make an impression on our community about what paintball is really like.
As we speak i am considering getting the local newspaper to do an arcticle on paintball and show that it is not dangerous but it is a fun sport.
Maybe you should all do that too. Call up your local newspaper and try to get them to do an article on your paintball field and how it is a safe sport. When people see this they will remember and have a different point of view about the sport.

Yes it prolly will
And the Bernie Mac ones too
but i am trying to get people to see that yea.. These shows may portray it badly but we can't do anything except play it the way it is supposed to be played
