How much protection do pball masks provide? I trust that my mask will keep me safe (Brass Eagle z Leader) Just wanted to know whats the standard protection i.e. How close and at what FPS?
Say this scenario point blank range with a hot gun (250+) will my mask lense stop the paintball?

Wrong forum man...
But to answer your question; Any PAINTBALL mask is better than no mask at all. Please note that I emphasized paintball. When JT, ZLeader, Scott, etc make a mask they take pointblank shots into consideration and design the mask & lenses accordingly. So yes, the lenses should hold up to being hit pb by a hot shot (hot shots are usually considered over 300 fps not 250)
A mask desgined for another activity was never meant to take the beating that it will see in paintball. Therefore avoid them. While they might hold up, do you really want to take that chance.
Besides a half-way decent mask doesn't cost big $$$$.

I think before a company like JT, Scott, VForce, etc. can get approved by the Paintball Safety Association (hah made taht up..but its some association that has to approve the gear) the goggles have to be able to withstand a 350+ from point blank range..i think those are the numbers..pretty sure but not 100%
so they protect your eyes very well..now your chin, neck, back of head, top of head, etc..thats a different story..just suck it up :)

Yeah, wot are ya a bunch of girlies - (apologies to the girlies who play).
The standards thing sounds about right. But I think they use DOT safety standards for morotcycle helmets & lenses. JT every once in a while throws DOT approval stuff in their adds. Besides aren't most of the JT masks actually motorcross masks ??

Before a mask is put into the field it is tested at about 4 inches away, at the highest veloctiy possibly (around 500 without breaking the ball)
The mask will stop the ball as long as he isnt shooting 200fps hot, and you have taken good care of your lenses. Dont us chemcicals that werent made for it, and make sure you clean all the paint of at the end of the day.

JT make moto goggles, not mask. Moto requires a helmet not a mask. figured i would clear that up

Boy that REALLY doesn't sound right.
Paintballs are one thing, lead or steel shot is an entirely different matter all together.

we did it once on a bet (it got blown to pieces) but the inside thermal lens was still in tact and the bbs were stuck in it

NO! THat wuold be extremely dangerous. I think whoever said they can take up to 500fps at point blank is correct. I think that is right.

What kind of mask was it and what size shot were you using? JT tests their lenses at point blank with 20 gauge shot.
