The "Get IP" function

Just a quick question. I'm assuming that this function is reserved for moderators so that they can keep track of knuckle-heads starting flame wars & constantly making new accounts.
Otherwise its a bit of an open invitation to those of a less than honest nature to ransack a system - especially one w/ DSL or a cable modem
