Are all these experienced player just a bunch of morons by picking on the newbies.Sure they might ask what you would call stupid question from time to time but hey did,t we all. There probably isn't a gun I can't fix and alot of crap in the sport I know about and as for helping Newbies I always have time because I want to see the sport I love grow even larger and without the support of us experienced players alot of the newbs might give up.Just ask Tripp about his time at RLD

it's not about being mean, it's about getting a laugh from some of the things people will ask/say/do. it's good natured humor. i have to admit that some people take it too far. those are the people that have forgotten what it was like to be the new guy. just remember that most of it is just for laughs, not bashing newbs.

Nothing wrong with teasing them just don't insult them and treat them like they were morons. The only way they'll improve their game is to ask questions.

We rarely are "picking" on newbies, its just that noobs do really stupid things that even some normal people shouldnt do.

Sometimes they ask the stupidest things such as... how do you screw it the co2? I mean i can't help but laugh at that... seriously if you're a LITTLE bit bright you'll know so I guess other than that the guy's right... the only way they can improve is by asking. Hey! We were all once noobs aren't we? You probably ask stupid questions before so I usually help out noobs at the field best i can.

that's true some newbies do seem a little dense. I know this one who was asking if he could butt-end someone with his gun if he was close enough. We explained the error of his assumption to him and made sure he knew not to do it. Now we just buf him about it.:D

Ugh, when will people learn. Newbie doesn't mean n00b.

There are 2 different kinds of new players.

A newbie is someone who's new to the sport and generally just wants to learn. These are the people who ask what kind of gun you have, how nice it is, the feature's, how much it costs, etc... Newbies are generally eager to learn and don't try to say something unless they know what they're talking about. On the field, these are the coolest people to be with. They listen to the experienced players, they're not afraid to actually move around and shoot, they just want to have fun.

A n00b is the kind of kid people dread meeting. They believe they are god's gift to paintball. That their gun is the best and they're the best players ever. Think think they know everything and insist that you're wrong if you try to correct him. They're the one's on the field who cower behind the starting bunker and don't do anything. The don't actually do anything yet they claim to get many people out.

See the difference?

GREAT definition Shadow.

I ALWAYS make sure that the "Newbies" are having a good time, and will offer advice, or let them try out our markers, and cheer them on in between our drills. They like it, and it helps them appreciate the sport. The more people who play the sport, the cheaper it becomes for us!

For the noobs, I have to learn to just ignore them. They tend to be "clingy" and say (and I really think believe) some of the craziest things. You try to tell them the truth, but they are the "Gods of Paintball" and carry the biggest attitudes, because they see some of the Teams in the area do it. So they assume "attitude" creates skill. After about 3 minutes, I walk away. If they follow we invite them to play, then they leave. If they come back we insist they play, then strangely they go back to "Dominating" against the "walk-ons".

Well it's their own little Fiefdom I guess.

Noobs should be treated with some respect. If every new player quit because some experienced player gave him/her a hard time, where would our sport go? Help them out.

As for newf9. He spent probably close to two hours on my Spyder that day.

I dont think people new to the sport should be messed with at all. Not to their face anyway. If someone asks you a dumb question just answer it and walk away then tell your buddies about it. The people at my field helped me as a newbie and watched your back in games and stuff. Thats how it should be.

dont mind them except when they are thinking what they are saying is correct and im a complete moron. i was talking to a guy at the bmx track (no bmx for me) and he said he was going to buy an angel for 10 bucks on the internet

I don't mind answering newbies questions. I don't make fun of them unless I know them and they know that I'm just ribbing them. It's the noobs that I can't stand with their attudes.

Most people are judged by thier gun and apparel. What if Johnny newbie had the latest gear and gun and Tom Kaye or Bob Long showed up in jeans and a tshirt shooting a Talon. People that don't know any better would fear Johnny newbie just because he looks like a experienced player.

Per the defintions of Shadow, noobs should help themselves, learn to speak less and learn more.

Newbies we should ALL help, in any way we can

   I definetly agree.
Although its funny when newbies do stupid things most newbies wouldnt do, its better off to help them so they wont have as many problems and be more effiecient when playing.

A newb is like a egg it has not been corrupted by ego and still wants to learn about the sport before he mouths off how he is the best player and he beat Bob long or something. And the n00b is the spoiled rotten egg who says he is the best person on the feild and shot out 30 people last game

Shadow-Great definition, couldn't have said it better(or come close for that matter) myself.

I think all of us, regardless of how long we've been playing, are newbies at some point in time. Getting that new marker and figuring out the 'sweet spot', best way to maintain and general function of, trying to explain it to friends without sounding foolish but accepting the fact that you don't know everything about it(me and Palmer markers:D ). Yeah, I think at one time or another everyone goes through it.

n00bies- yes those irritating people(kids and adults) who have been playing less than a week and think they are Gods gift to paintball...Gotta love them.

With Newbies, I am more willing to help, but with n00bies, I sometimes have flashbacks of being Active Duty and snap at them. As long as I get my point accross and they understand what I am saying, I'm happy:eyes:

Man if I had a quarter for every spyder i fixed for a newbie. Its all worth it though and alot of them look up to the older guys. It's true that alot of people make a judgement based on your appearance on the field and say they want to be on your team based on the way you look.
Noobs are annoying but can be funny. When they get put in their place its funny. when they claim they shot out 20 people then the ref comes over and says "no you didn't, you stayed in the same bunker the whole time" thats funny.

i would like to have considered myself a newbie back in the day, yet i remember making fun of the guys who were holding their markers the proper way...wrist goosenecked and arm tucked in....lol, back then i thought it was the funniest thing.

anyone who taunts a new player or uses "newbie" as an insult is an idiot. We all had to start somewere, and doing so simply drive new players (whoare the lifeblood of any hobby) away.

BTW "Nhspaintballer", your avatar promotes the use of illicit drugs and is therefore both offensive and in violation of this site's "terms of service". Please change it.

I dont dislike newbies in particular. But there are some that really get me annoyed.

Like around where I live there are about 4 people who basically think that since I know a lot about paintball, I have a duty to help them. When its funny since they've been playing for longer, yet dont feel the need to actually learn anything on their own besides asking me.

Then on AIM there's about 30-50 (I dont keep exact count) newbies that constantly bug me about the stupidest things ever. I dont mind answering one question one time to one person. But sometimes they ask the same question over and over and over. Its really tough to bear with, and I feel bad when I block them, just because I wouldn't have liked it if somebody blocked me when I was asking them advice.

But then there's the relatively cool ones who I enjoy helping because they have a good attitude on the sport they want to learn, they want to get better and they dont always rely on me for advice, which is my favorite.

You can't get one without the other. If you don't want them to ask you stupid questions then don't offer your help. You can't put out a sign and say no stupid questions.
