i installed my flatline a few days ago and tested it out, it fired ok. the balls seemed to rise too much in some instances and i noticed quite a bite took on wings of their own and decided to stray far from my intended target. I will reinstall it but is there any way to polish the inside of the flatline barrel to possibly reduce friction ?

Well, I cant think of any effective way to polish the inside of the flatline barrel. I own one and have thought about that myself. To make sure you get less balls flying off to the sides you need to make sure that the barrel is lined up just right. Once installed you can turn the barrel a little bit left and right. You basically have to eye it in. Once you get the barrel parallel to the gun then make a slight notch on the bottom of the barrel near the collar and then another notch on the gun itself so you know where to line up at other times. Another upgrade that would help ball spin would be to get a new bolt. I bought a venturi bolt and my shots were a lot more consistent. Hope that answered your question:cool:

Polishing a Flatline would ruin the intentional friction put there by Tippmann. It is that exact finish which makes the Flatline in conjunction with the barrel's shape work.
Try these other solutions:
Velocity to 270-275 fps
small bore paint of good quality
not only set up the Flatline properly, but hold the marker straight as well.
expansion chamber if on CO2 or reg (palmer) if you have the money
HPA if you have the money
BTW since paintballs aren't perfect and the Flatline is what it is, you need to expect some wingers. So long as the majority of your shots hit where you are aiming, then you are good.

The inside of it is made purposely rough so the balls will rub against it easier to give them a backspin. If you polish it you will ruin the Flatline.

it only appears this way since the balls follow the backspin, and sometimes the ball gets air under it too much , that's what i noticed with my friends, forinstance shoot a ball directly into the sky, you'll see it curve away from you instead of going straight up and down.

Thanks for all the help. Good thing I didn't go and polish the barrel. How can I determine velocity w/o a chrono ? My local course has one but I don't go out that way too often.

Sorry you need a chrono. Its really the only accurate way to measure velocity. The other less accurate method is to measure off a certain distance, and use a stopwatch and divide distance by time (essentially what older chronos did), but I doubt any results you get will be worthwhile, but at least you can determine if you are shooting hot or not.

Try setting your marker in a gun vice: one of the things to zero in a scope or the open sights on a rifle.
Once there, set up a target: something like a peice of vinal siding or a clean peice of plastic (something that will wash easily with a hose). Make sure the gun is pointing EXACTLY at the target, just like you would aim it to hit it. Now fire a shot, and adjust the barrel. Fire a shot, adjust, etc. etc. etc. The vice ensures the gun itself is in the same place everytime, and the small barrel adjustments will help to zero in your marker. Once there, go try it at different ranges. if you like how it shoots and all, mark it as mentioned above and game on.
Few hints: CHRONO YOUR GUN BEFORE YOU DO THIS.
USE THE RECOMMEND PAINT (pmi or marbalizer, I believe)
And DON'T GIVE UP.

Yes I like mine fine, and yes I pretty much agree with willpill, I answered in more depth in your other post regarding this.

Actually it came in gloss black. I bought a pair of OD infant/toddler socks for .79 at Kmart. I pulled it over the hopper and made a strategic cut for the feed neck. After that some left over netting (same as on the rest of the marker) and then a thick black permanent marker for the pattern.

actually.... it supposed to be rough inside. to cause the friction to put the backspin on the ball.
