Can I ask a question? Well here it goes.
What makes an Angel tick. How does it work?

(Open bolt gun.. So ball will drop into chamber when you put on a hopper w/ balls in it)
Plug in air .. Turn gun on .. Pull trigger .. Trigger hits the microswitch .. Microswitch sends signal to solenoid (electric valve pretty much) .. Solenoid released the air from the HPR (usually will be WDP Minireg) to the LP Chamber .. This chamber takes the air and uses half of it to push the RAM forward, hitting the valve .. At teh same time the RAM is moving forward, the bolt is going along with it, because the RAM and Bolt are connected w/ a pullpin (that you can take off the top and pull out your bolt on most openbolt electros) .. The RAM hits the valve, which sends the air up through the bolt .. Air is pushed through the bolt which launches the bolt out of the chamber .. Remaining air in the chamber pushes RAM back into position, which brings the bolt back, and another paintball drops into the chamber. .. Cycle continues...
What does RAM stand for anyway? :D ;)
Edit: I'll add in a picture for you :) probably will explain it better than i can

Angel Bot Test Today
Ok, this was a quick preliminary test I was able to make today. I hope this cut & paste comes out ok. I shot 10 shots of XS Sports #1 balls, which though the last time I used a hopper of them they shot great, this time they were not as good. But I used the same balls from the same batch in every shot. I did a barrel test with a number of the balls, and not one fell right through, they fit fine, and was able to blow them out of the barrel. Same with the .689 Check-It Dragon 2 piece barrel I used for the accuracy test after the FPS test.
The temp was around 65, I used the stock Infinity 2001 LCD barrel (as most have that as opposed to various other brands) with my MacDev Gladiator reg adjusted to get the stock bolt to as near a constant 285 (field limit) as possible.

As you can see, under sort by shots (recorded as I took each shot), both DeZign bolts right off the bat were very consistent. And under sort by consistency, both DeZign and the Cobra bolts had the closest FPS. As for individual FPS gains, the Cobra was the highest, though not by much, with DeZign, Bonebrake, and the Lighting being very close to it. Nowhere near the exaggerated claims I have seen in other post of over 25 FPS gains over the stock bolt! But still some gain. But the averages make the DeZign Open Face the BEST of the crowd.
Now, as it was getting late (and dark), I had two tourney players who use modified Angels as their normal guns test out the bolts in a "BLIND" taste (accuracy) test. In other words, I did not tell them what bolts I put in the gun, in no particular order, and handed it over to them to test out at the shooting range. They shot at targets in different ranges. We used the Check-It 14" Dragon 2 piece barrel, as it was tried and agreed upon (using the stock bolt) that it was a much better barrel than the stock Infinity. This was not done on a bench, nor was I able to measure groupings. But it was used in sort of a real world "seat of the pants" target shooting - so might apply better than just a sterile setup. The order was kinda surprising of choice - from best to worse:
DeZign Open Face
DeZign Venturi
Lightning
Cobra
GT Cyclone (was commented that it really was not to bad at all!)
Bonebrake (was commented that it seemed to curve the ball DOWN!!)
Stock Bolt
Shocktech (surprising it was LAST!)
Now, some comments on the bolts in relation to fit & finish, as well as wear after use:
Both DeZign and Bonebrake bolts are made of ERTAlyte. Both DeZign bolts showed NO wear at all! Not even where it went up against the ball detent. But Dez has machined in a nice sloped edge on his bolt that he said was to help the passing over the detent as smooth as possible, and I think it worked. The Bonebrake showed just a few tiny marks on its side. The Cobra showed a few scratches as well, but not bad. The GT, Shocktech, and stock bolt showed a bit more wear scratches, but still acceptable. But the Lightning seems to have had its face end pretty scrubbed - might not be too good there, though it does pass the slide tapping in the bore test with no friction to be felt.
As for the feed holes, Cobra has the closest to a circle and smallest sized, GT a bit larger, Shocktech still a circle but larger yet. Lightning comes next with a slight oblong (cause of its famous "ramp" to curve the air), with the Bonebrake elongated a bit more, and the DeZign bolts the longest oblong hole.
As for the face holes, Cobra is the smallest, then GT Cyclone a bit more (but reason is what is inside, more later). The Lightning opens it up quite a bit but with a indent for the ball to lay against, as does the next larger DeZign Open Face. But the Bonebrake has the largest opening. The Shocktech has 3 Venturi holes, and the DeZign Venturi has 10 small outer ring holes and a bit larger middle hole.
The interior of some of these bolts are quite interesting. The Lightning has the cut ramp in it, which many know is its best LP feature in the AutoCocker bolt design. The Shocktech has a metal insert that has a bit of a ramp, but as its recessed towards the back a bit, doubt it does anything. The GT Cyclone is a weird one. It has a large piece of metal inside it that blocks a lot of the inlet hole, and forces the air around it, and then through the twisted venturi path that is at the end of this piece of metal. Supposedly this gives a "cyclone" effect to the air behind the ball. The 2 DeZign bolts have a ramped black plastic (might be ERTAlyte) ramp in them, similar to the Shocktech (also used to hold the ADJUSTABLE pin - yes, you CAN adjust it for the perfect hammer fit!), but much better as its placed where it can effect the air, but also angled much better to really direct the flow of air too. The Bonebrake and Cobra just have a 90 degree cut in them.
Lastly, the actual quality of the machining of the product. The outside of the Lightning seems well made (but- remember the bad amount of wear on it!), but the inside of it seems like it was very poorly cut! Lots of rough surface! The Shocktech, as usual, has a lots of flash inside it where the venturi holes were cut. This could cause some turbulence perhaps? But not quality workmanship if you ask me! The Cobra, Bonebrake, GT Cyclone, and both DeZign bolts all had excellent workmanship on them! Very well made. But the star once again seems to go to the DeZign bolts for those extra "little" touches put into them. The chamfered edges (for the detent), the adjustable pin, the machining, and even a slight "cut" between the lip and just before the feed hole. Not to slight the Bonebrake or Cobra, but the DeZign bolts just show a bit "more".
Oh, I did try the WDP "Custom" bolt for a day - and returned it the next. It was WORSE than the stock bolt! And at NPS I had the guy there try the KAPP Diamond bolt - the darn pin BROKE OFF inside his gun! If you take a look at these, there are already stress cracks where the pin is in the body. These are not Delrin or ERTAlyte bolts, but some sort of polymer.
So, in conclusion, it seems that the DeZign bolts, though not as LP as the Cobra, was more consistent with its FPS per shot, and in the "blind" taste test, was the most liked. The Open Face the top, with his Venturi a close second.
Hope this helps you folks . . . .

How do i adjust the rate of fire on my angel? How do i change firing modes?
to adjust the rate of fire take off the grips and then you will see 2 black buttons. press the first button till it switches to mrof(max round of fire) and press the second button till its set to whatever you want.

Go with the Max-flo, its one of the best reg's on the market and with the maxflo you don't need the reg that the angel comes with. you can single reg the angel with the max-flo, you'll get better consistency
If you want, you could strip the Angel reg & make it a gas thru. if your comfortable with doing so, contact me & i'll explain how to convert your reg.

Volumizers really serve no purpose, they're just for looks.
To adjust the trigger, remove the left grip cheek & unplug the wires connected to the board
Then unscrew the Gripframe & remove slowly, be careful not to catch the wire in the gripframe.
Then look at the top of the trigger, you'll see 2 slots(one with a spring in it) remove the spring & get the appropriate allen key.
The front screw adjusts the post travel
The back screw adjusts the Pre-Travel
Adjust acorddingly to your liking & replace the Spring in the rear screw hole.
Reinstall all screw's & wires & your set.
If your having problems, contact me
acualy 1 volumizer does serve a purpose. on the left one it is a gas thingy and it is like a low pressure chamber for the cocker, they do the same thing

you have to set it up to actually perform, if you just slap it on, it wont do anything other than hold more air

How do you know if the volumizers are set up properly?
And how do you set it up properly?
How do I set the pin code?
Does a high rise effect the feed rate much over a low rise?
i kno how to set the pin number if it says PIN on your lcd display and you cant make it say other wise and ill tell you how to but you have to e-mail me or IM me

My Angel LCD 2000, has a problem,
it has a semi board. it has air, and nothing for upgrades.
my proble is that after you take out the "key" it goes into a self check mode for one second then it is SUPPOSED to go into safe mode , but it never really LEAVES the self check mode it just stays with alll the functions and signals on the LCD on, it does not matter what I do I just cant get it into the safe mode.
please help if you have any input.
thank you tomas.

There's a on/off switch on the side of the gun that will turn it on. As soon as you screw in your air system the gun will cock itself. You don't need to do anything.

If your gun isn't tuned correctly, yes you could chop paint, but thats the case with any gun.
An Angel that is Tuned correctly & maintained properly will give you no problems.

how accurate are angels with the stock barrel? do they take co2?
ciaran.mooney
06-10-2002, 08:36 AM
Angels will not run on Co2! Liquids and electricity, dats a good rule of thumb.
The stock barrel is alright, its more accurate than people give it credit for, but it would be better if you bought another barrel that was a better paint match.
ok, ok.
volumizer on the left or right?

depends on the bolt, barrel, and speed of fire. Mostly the LEDs don't fire as fast so I guess they could be more accurate.

I am playing back for a team playing in local and a few regional tourneys. I was thinking of buying a 2k2 LCD before christmas, but quite a few people i respect at the field I play at have said that i should either stay away or not to count on them as a main gun becasue they don't work real well in winter/in rain/snow. I am pretty sure this isn't true but wanted your opinions. I am mainly looking into an Angel because of the low maintenance and high reliability. Any help you could offer would be great. Thanks.

read all the faq, mind you not horribly well but, whats the normal input pressure on a lcd angel (any of them from 2k+)? i think aka makes a tornado valve for them too, whats the lowest you can reduce your pressure to? :eyes:
is the gun pressure the same as the bolt pressure? or is there an lpr stock with the gun? or is that an add on?
if you dont oil the bolt, i assume u still oil the rest of the gun via asa? what oil do you use? do you NOT oil it at all?
btw i know nothing about the angel, i dont own one, just curious..... possibly to join the family in the future

whats the normal input pressure on a lcd angel (any of them from 2k+)? about 350psi
i think aka makes a tornado valve for them too, whats the lowest you can reduce your pressure to? It will lower the pressure but I am not sure how much. I'm not even sure if they make the tornado valve anymore.
is the gun pressure the same as the bolt pressure? No there is a built in LPR
or is there an lpr stock with the gun? DOH!!! I already answered that. If you look at the front of an Angel, like down the barrel, the LPR is in the front on the left side.
if you dont oil the bolt, i assume u still oil the rest of the gun via asa? Correct
what oil do you use? do you NOT oil it at all? Yes oil it. I use WDP love juice. Some people use any old silicone based oil.

You dont cock angels, they cock themselves. They are totally worth it.
EvilPopTart
01-08-2003, 04:48 AM
Actaully, Angels are one of the more customizable markers out there. Angels "cock" themselves with the introduction of pressure into their system. Unlike you tippmann, angels have to ability to be come completly different guns in 15 minutes in a well stocked proshop.

MEM 1-3 is micro switch
MEM 4-6 is opto trigger.
MEM3A is NOT COPS II, MEM3B is.
MEM6A is COPS II.
Other than that the changes from one MEM version to another are for program fixes that most people do not know or need to know about.

Go to www.theangelguy.com and in the technical info or the faq section (I forget where it is) there is an owners manual that you can download. In there it shows all the error codes plus a LOT more than what is in the WDP owners manual.

-850 preset should work
also, what kind of effeciency does an angel get ( such as the amount of shots out of a 68 ci and 47 ci tank )
-wdp claims most of there angels get about 1500 shots per 68 4500

- yea, a preset will work, i use a pure energy 68 4500, and it works fine......

I'm getting my Angel in the near future (as soon as the stinking check clears... grrr...), and I was wondering what, if anything, I will need to maintain it. I will probably order all of it with my HPA tank, and I will wait and see what comes with the marer boeforehand; so a list of everything would be pretty nice.
It's a 2001 LCD, in case that matters.

I've had my angel for 3 years and nothing has gone wrong that I needed something new.
Only.
Buy extra Ball detents.
Mine broke only becuase I took my volosity screw out and it was shooting something stupid it broke it.
And I sugest to buy a indoor charger.
Thats about it.
Upgrade I sugest freak barrel. Extramely accurate.

Few questions here and there.
I'm about to buy a used LED angel, but it has a single finger frame:( It's a great deal, but are other trigger frames sold for the angel, and are they too expensive?
Also, being a mag guy, are angels much more complicated maintenance, and are they on the same level as far as reliability goes? My mag never went down on me once.
Finally, do they have noticable kick? If yes, then how bad is it?
Thanks in advance, and hopefully a future WDP'er.

Also, the guy told me 90k shots had been put through it. Is that a bad deal, he's offering me a 2000 led for $450. And angel, I'll consider that in the future, broke for now.

ace stands for anti chop eye - a sensi in the speed and the cops in the ir3, is SIMILAR in that is supposed to prevent choppage...... but are somewhat different systems....
if anyone is looking into changing there lcd or led and adding a 90* frame to it - http://hometown.aol.com/voltageproducts/voltageproducts.html - pbreview name of the guy thats doing (or promoting?) this is voltageproducts

I know that this has been kind of answered already, but what are the operating pressures for each line of Angel (LED, LCD, IR3, Speed)?
I'm putting this up just because of the immense number of "angel ___________ pressure???" threads out there; my own gun (2001 LCD) is irrelevant to the question.

i think i already know the answer but i want to make sure that if i get a PMI 68/45 with an output pressure 800 would it be alright...... i hear that 850 is better or sumtin like that

06-18-2003, 11:38 PM
LeD is around 700-750ish (I think Im taking wild guesses here)
LcD-600ish
Speed-300-350ish,can be taken to 180 with volumizers.
Ir3-Totally Clueless
800 will work just fine for your Angel.850 dosent jack the performance any.Someone fed you some BS.

i have a 2k3 limited edition lcd...and i've been eyeballin' a trigger from NWPaintball Products...the thing is i've emailed them a couple times asking them if it fits on my gun...i want it so the side to side wobble is eliminated and/or minimalized and also i want a different trigger, perferably a flat or a lesser curved one...i've also looked at a couple from cobra and also warped, so if any of you out there have any info on this, i'd appreciate it...thanks~~!!:blah:

well, that's the thing...it doesn't specify what gun it's for...it just generically says "angel trigger"

im going to be getting a 2k2 angel fly next week and i have a question. Do i need to get a new board if i want to get eyes(cops i think)?
Cliffio
11-03-2003, 01:57 PM
couple of things
its not a 2k2, see the post in "official angel info" thread
if you want to get an anti-chop system in your lcd, the only way, or one of the only ways to do so is through warped sportz, i believe doc does it as well but anyways, i think that warped LA does the ACE for lcds i think its around 300 bucks.
contect warped sportz la for all the details
i would advise you to go out and actually play with this gun before making up your mind, make sure everything is set up properly and also make sure the gun is tuned correctly. then play a day or so and see if you even need ace, i personaly have never thought i needed it, i mean i might chop once every couple of games, but its never been an issue.

A friend of mine has an IR3 with angel air. No matter how high he puts his regulator at he won't shoot over 250fps. He tried stripping his mini reg and using the angel air alone as well which also didn't work, still at 250. Any ideas?
Thanks

I would highly doubt that.
The A4 board is able to be put into a Speed, but I don't believe vice versa.

the only boards that are interchangeable are speed/a4

Alright, so I was able to pickup a '99 angel for real cheap, right? Only problem it has is that it won't charge. What part needs replacing?
Cliffio
01-19-2004, 10:46 PM
if it wont charge because the charger is shot, then you just need a new charger
if your battery is dead and will not charge at all then you need a new battery.
dont forget the led charges when the gun is OFF unlike all other angel models where the gun should be ON.
angelparts.com has both for the led
TAG also has both
Cliff
edit--wow, i cant believe how logical that sounds, if only it were that easy, if you do not have access to a seperate charger to help figure out which problem you have, i suggest you send it to TAG and they will be able to help you with it, or perhaps they can diagnose(sp) the problem over the phone... either way... www.theangelguy.com

if you know it isnt the battery or the charger, then the only other thing would be bad wiring....i think
