Sooooo...... I'm thinking of my first gun upgrade! I am a n00b with a Spyder Xtra, all stock for now. I have been deciding on a barrel that would be a nice first upgrade. Anything $50-ish and below is fine. I've decided to get either a J&J Ceramic, Smart Parts Teardrop, or a 32 Whisper/NightStik.... Any suggestions? By the way, I play some speedball, but woodlands is something that I want to try, so someting rather quiet would be nice too :D

Ok, so that's 4 for the J&J, 5 for the Teardrop, and two for the CP one-piece. I checked out the barrel on pbgear. Looks nice, so I'll consider it. But there is only two sizes there for Spyders: 12 inch and 16 inch, and I was looking for something like a 14 inch. In any case, there were people saying that it was kinda loud. They also said that it was kinda hard to shoot clean after a ball break.......... I've heard that both the teardrop and ceramic barrels were rather quiet compared to the Spyder stock barrel.

id say get the tear drop, its a pretty decent/good barrel and really cheap also. Better than the other barrels you listed

Ok, 6 for the teardrop, 4 for the Ceramic, and 2 for the CP (which I'm not going to get anyways). 32° is outta here, and so far I'm leaning towards the teardrop.
Oh, and by the way, if you want to put in the ° you need to hold ALT then press 0 1 7 6 . It makes it look better than 32* to have 32°, so you look more like a pro, well at least in the forums :D

the numbers can be 9 3 5 instead as well =). between a 12" and 16", i would go with the 16" since you're doing lots of woodsball and a 16 is nice for supair.

Didn't know about that 9 3 5 one. Anyways, I think that a CP isn't the kind of barrel for me, since its too loud. Also, I think I might just get the J&J Ceramic, since I am considering a low pressure mod in the future, and the SP Teardrop has porting too soon, so the LP won't work for it as well as the J&J. The J&J can also clean itself fairly well by a couple dry-fires, and I think Sportmart nearby is selling them (but on their website it's $50  ) Well, who knows.... I guess a CP 16" would be better then for LP, and LP is said to make your gun quieter anyways....:eyes: Who knows.... :|

I don't find the CP to be any louder than either of those two other barrels, and it really doesn't matter. They aren't going to make it so that someone can't hear you.

no lapco bigshot? :(

The lapco bigshot is a great barrel, but it's $10 more than any other one here. I just don't think that it's worth the $10 because I don't find a difference in performance between the CP, Teardrop, J&J etc.

Wow, the teardrop is really ahead of the J&J. The only thing I'm concerned about though is how far up the barrel the porting starts, as I am considering a Low Pressure mod in the future, and don't want to buy a new barrel. Does anybody know if it starts at least 7-8" up the barrel?

how loud the barrel really doesnt matter at all, no matter what you do someone will hear it so it shouldnt really be aconcern unless its increidbly super loud. And as for it cleaning itself that donest matter either, its not to hard to unscrew a barrel, push a squegee thro it and then put it back on. id also say wait to get a better gun to start trickin it out or whatever it is u wanna do.

LP is really something that I'd like to do anyways, since Spyders are inherantly loud to begin with, and I'd like to have a more quiet, efficient gun. I'd hope to get a regulator after a new barrel, and the Bob Long Torpedo looks nice for that. I don't see why I should get a new gun to upgrade like you said Inverse, because I'd rather just stick with one gun and move on with it. Plus, LP doesn't seem that expensive if I'm getting a reg anyways. I'd have to get a new valve and spring kit, but that's about it. I've taken out the Venturi in my bolt already, although if I had tons of money I'd invest in a Palmer Stabilizer, some insanely good and expensive barrel, and an AKA Lightning bolt. Anyways, LP seems like something to go for, so why not get a barrel that would work well with it?
To make this in context with what I should get first (a better barrel), which barrel out of those 4 would be the best for LP?

CP one piece has porting at exactly the 8" mark. It's great for LP.

Ok! Ok! Ok! Ok! Ok!!!!!!!! OK!!!!!!!!!! I'll see about the CP one-piece barrel, at your insistance. It's kinda hard to clean though apparently because of the porting, and I don't have a squeegee, only a flexi-swab. Maybe the J&J?

I read that post that your sticky goes to before I posted my thread. I read the section about the Smart Parts Teardrop vs J&J Ceramic, and the outcome of the thread starter choosing a Lapco Bigshot over his first two original choices so abruptly showed that he wasn't that sure of what barrel he was going to get.... The J&J seems like a great barrel, except for that O-ring problem.... On pbreview, the Teardrop has an average rating of 9.5/10, while the Ceramic has a 9.1/10, although it has 96 more posts.... If I was going to get the Ceramic, I wouldn't want to have to deal with the barrel getting loose. Also, there isn't an O-ring groove, so if you stuck one on, there would be nothing there to keep in place.... If J&J has already fixed that, I'd probably go out and get a Ceramic as soon as I can. Have they?

yep lapcos are very accurate and are probably the most efficient barrel. they're probably the most undereated barrel also.

Lapco underrated? Everyone talks about lapcos being great, they are appreciated to the fullest. Lapco, Smart Parts, Custom Products, J&J, all make awesome barrels, you'd be happy with any of them

Smart Parts makes great barrels. Get the Teardrop. Also, 32* seems to have fallen(have lesser quality) nowadays. J&J makes nice barrels, but the smart parts seems better.

lapcos are underated in the way that no one seems to include them. its like only a handful of people knows about its performance.

CP did make a 14" if thats what your looking for try the trading forum, my brother got one off of their about a month ago. As for noise its quieter than the stock spyder barrel. Also I have noticed no difference between the sp teardrop, cp, and j&j ceramic. Just in case you care the teardrop is on a 98c, I have a J&J on a 98c, my friend has a J&J on a spyder classic, and my brother has a cp on a spyder compact java edition. They are all excellent barrels and work about the same.

THE tear drop is defenitly the way to go..i perionly find it a much better barrel its quit hardly ever breaks balls and i think is just over all better...look at the poll it speaks for itself

Hmmmmm......
They all seem great, but I'm going for the J&J..... It comes in a 16" version too now (don't know if it's any better), which makes it great for LP, and it also is easy to clean. The only problem I've heard about it is that it lacks an O-ring which can make it wobble loose, but that can be fixed by a 50 cent O-ring. The SP is also great, but due to its large porting it wouldn't work too well for LP, and I've heard from numerous people that if you have a ball break, you're pretty much stuck. Anyways, Sportmart probably sells the J&J too, but I'm not sure yet. All I've seen there is the crappy PMI Razzor. Well....so much for now.....

Longer is bad for LP. Get a CP 1 piece or a teardrop.

When i first wanted a new barrel i looked at the exact same barrels that u did till' i founf the equation design bizerk pro, its accurate, short, cheap, and durable. and it looks pretty kool. but if u dont like it, then stik with the tear drop barrel.

Well....talk about a surprise ending!
When I was in San Diego I decided to check out some paintball stores, as they are a lot bigger and there are more of them than where I am, as well as no shipping charges. I was interested in getting the CP One-Piece, as it was practically the same as the Ceramic but didn't have that evil inherant O-ring Problem. They had only a one black one and one red one left. When I got there, they only had red! Well, I was so fixed on buying a barrel, I asked the guy if they had any other barrels that were good for Low Pressure. He pointed out a Dye Xcel.
Now I know I shouldn't have gone a whole different direction, but I know that Dye makes excellent barrels, and the Xcel is one of them. So, I shelled out $50 and came home with a nice barrel. Did some more looking around on pbreview and I was right! Xcel is a great barrel.
Now I just have to use it...... It's a 14" model and so far it looks nice and fits  Also, it has a great anodizing job and it's so smooth it'll be hard to scratch, unlike the wierd anodizing that's on the stock Spyder Barrel, which is easy to scratch because of the shape of the aluminum.
While it is kind of a strange look on my Cobalt Blue Spyder Xtra to a black Dye Xcel barrel, I figured that performance far surpasses cosmetics, and I'm hoping to put this baby to the test. I'm gonna go paintballing in a couple weeks, and I'll write another post and make a review of it after I get back. Talk about a surprise ending :P
P.S. And why I maybe should've gone with the red CP, blue to red looks even uglier, and if I was to do some woodsball I'd REALLY stick out!

Red on a blue gun without fade looks horrible... let's take your blue paintball gun (the one on the bottem) http://www.bigfoot-paintball.com/image/5_boutique/01/spy_shutter_col.jpg try throwing on this gun's barrel http://www.macdev.net/images/E-Racer3.jpg

Lol now I feel like an idiot. I guess I should've waited and bought the barrel online. Oh well. While silver does look nice, in woodsball is really makes you stand out..... If I had the cash and the time, maybe I'd get a cool paintjob, but not now.

Yes we all know it hurts.. :sulk: Try having a barrel that's black on a gun that's green/yellow fade... :sulk: Now that's painful! maybe with some further painting and recoloring, it'll be blue and it'll look awesome! :sulk: But for now, sticking out like a sore thumb... :sulk:

I know, but so far I'm cool with it. Maybe a blue to black fade on the gun would help. I'm planning on getting the BL Torpedo reg anyways and that's black too. Anybody know around how much a standard paintjob is?
