ok, heres my situation. i am soon to be ordering a 2k1 cocker, and im lookin for an after market barrel to get for it. everyone says how good the freak is, buts its so damn expensive. so, i was thinkin instead, i should get a DYE SS, its .687 so it can shoot RPS paint and then get a DYE Xcel which is .690 so it can handle any larger paint. all together, itll cost about $130 compared to the $185-$200 of the freak. any comments???

I say the Freak is only a wise decision if 1) you use different sizes of paints every weekend (this is obvious, but i know tons of ppl who have all 8 inserts and have only used 1 in a 6 month period) and 2) if you have DIFFERENT MARKERS THAT YOU WOUDL LIKE TO USE THE FREAK ON!
for example, your getting a cocker. if you have a spyder as a backup, and already have a good barrel on it (ie. CP, Lapco, J&J, or even stock (but you should get a 30 dollar good low end barrel),etc) than DO NOT get the freak. you will be wasting yoru money.
The 2 big ideas behind the freak is 1) the inserts for different sizes of paint (the obvious one) and 2) they have different sized INSERTS instead of BACKS (unlike the cp, cp pro kit has different backs) the whole reasoning behind this is to use this freak system on more than 1 HIGH END marker.. so enless you have an electro sittin in your closet, i woudln't get the freak.
the cp pro kit is a great kit IF you use different sized paint a lot, but DONT need to use the kit on another marker.
But if you will use RPS most of the time, just get the Dye SS (its a great barrel, i recommend it for you).......wait to buy the Xcel until you KNOW that some of the paint you are gonna use wont fit in your SS.
good luck

I own a freak deluxe barrel system. and so far I've used about half the inserts, only because I've been trying alot of different paint. (anarchy, pmi premium, marbalizers, 32 competition...etc) If you only go to one field with FPO policy then don't get a 200 dollar freak barrel, get a barrel that will match the field paint the best, it might be a J and J ceramic, DYE SS, or lapco bigshot, who knows. bottomline is, paitn to barrel match is key to consistency. Accuracy depends on the paint/barrel match as well as the person using it.

plus since u have a cocker u could make it into a lp gun, which means lp guns tend to like tighter bore sizes so you could change it with the freak

the freak is really only expensive because of the idea and the inserts. i assume that u were talking about the whole freak kit. if you get just the barrel and no inserts the barrel is around 100. each insert is about 15-20. since the two barrels you were getting only have a variation of two bore sizes. you could only buy two inserts for a little less. if you go to paintballgear.com u can get different colored heads to match another color on your gun or apparel. or you can even get the all american front for it. makes sense right?
