View Full Version : To be Aggressive or Not to be?

In the few rec ball games that I have played, I have found myself to always be playing the back, mainly defending the flag station from the opposition, while I think I have found my niche as I like playing the back.
Is this a good thing? Should I be more aggressive and go for the flag or stay back?

Usually a team has BOTH flag runners and defenders. When talking about aggressive offense and defense, i say both are equally important. If you love playin back and are good at it, stick with it. If not, u can always experiment playing forward. Being aggressive as a forward is almost always a MUST!

I know its hard to criticize rec players, but if you left almost zero back players, and put on a major offensive at the breakout of the game, you can almost always win.
If you claim enough ground in the beginning, the other teams offensive has limited area to move and is easily marked.
Those that arent marked, will join the rest of their back players and camp.
Assuming that you have taken 3/4 controll of the field, the other team has only a quarter of the field to bunker down and camp in. If you have enough offensive players, then good communication and some fast legs are all you really need to take out the opposing campers.
This obviously wont work 100% of the time, and the first couple of times you try it youll probably get massacred, but communication and teamwork are several times more effective than being a defensive player.

I agree that both forwards and defenders are critical in squad warfare! Usually i play a wing position and I get really irritated if a defender gets bored and moves up to the front lines. If you like defending then like he said "stick with it" every position is important. As a defender you are the last line of protection. If their attackers take out yours, then it's up to you to protect that flag.

my team always grabs as much space as possible. it gives you a chance to use multiple tactics. if you just stay back then you will have limited options. not only do you have the chance to use multiple tactics, but you have a chance to use the most interesting tactics.

Stick with it, especially if you have the patience to sit there while others are having fun.

I have stayed back one time, hated it.I got too be in the fire fight. Most of the time we'll break in groups and i like too take 2 guys with me.Make a point guy and cover from the middle and watch your back. I like making the rush too the flag myself more than anything in the game. And i one of the oldest ones out there.

In woods and non-woods Rec Ball, we do the same, break into small teams ... the first part of the day I tend to be more aggressive, but as the day wears on and I get more worn out, I tend to become a back player, skulking in the shadows looking for a nice tree to rest under.
