View Full Version : blinding opponents with flashlights: bad idea?

I have this surefire flashlight (www.surefire.com) and its 110 lumen (imagine a minimag flash light, except around 15 times brighter). Even in bright day light from far away, its still enough to temporary blind an opponent. Question: do you think it would be a good idea to use it in a game to blind the opponent? From what I've found out, armotech and several other companies sell flashlight kits... what else are they for?

Dude dont do that. They sell those for mostly scenario games when it is all day playing. I know if you blinded me with a light i would prolly ditch the guns and punch you.

haha yeah that's not very nice... also it's a pretty cheap way to win.

(though you know I'm going to try this next time I paintball):D

why would u shine the light in their eyes to blind the when you could just shoot them and get it over with? i mean, if ur close enough to shine a stupid flashlight in their eye u should also be able to get a shot off. Also, if you don totaly blind them, all your doing is givinaway your position to them or others

Well number one if your giving up your position and making people mad so why would you want to do that?

That has to be the most embarassing thing ever. Getting eliminated while holding a flashlight. :P

What we do...

1 million candle power light. On command, we flash and close one eye to preserve nightsight.

If our "flash" is on spot, then we open up, suppress, and assault, if not, we move out quick. Most teams are not disciplined enough to move quickly at night, so their reaction time is slow, or they are so loud we can hear them from 100m away.

Note that it is a FLASH, a quick check, maybe a second, not much time. With they call in fire support (mortar, LAW, etc), 9/10 they risk hitting their own team or must move into position. The flash can be from 50m away and give us time to move up and set-up for our attack. Works quite well.

At night a good powerful flashlight is a good thing.
If it hurts your eyes during the day you definitely shouldn't use it all
At night it helps so much if you're defending an area

Daytime: NO
Its stupid trying to win by blinding your enemy, theyll just laugh and shoot you... and to really blind them aint funny. You may as well run up, tackle them, and then shoot them, its the same thing.

Night: Maybe
Dont use it to blind them. Use it to seek them out. But dont carry it or else they know where you are. Plant it somewhere. 1mil CLP is crazy, that can blind someone definately...

Just dont use a stupid flashlight, its stupid and youll look stupid, specially if you get shot while trying to blind someone... like someone up there said, someone blinds me and Id friggin attack them, not to mention my buddies would too. Not only would they be bruisin, but their car would be terrible.

Rig a disposible camera to flash without winding it, the effect is devastating on peoples night vision, and distracting in daylight. Just make sure you get the hell out of dodge (change positions) quickly after you use it. I have never used this tactic in paintball, I know its effects because its what I did to blind pursuers on night training exercises in Army Cadets. Cheap (as in playing like a chicken buk, buk, buk) but affective. Oh...and...uh...don't get caught, or the guys that first responded to this thread will get you. :D
