what is the difference between a red dot, laser, or point sight? which ones actually put a dot on the target and which ones do you just see the dot in the sight? by the way, heres an idea... i thought that it would work to take a laser pointer and tape it under the barrel of your gun and put tape over the button to hold it on... i might even ty it sometime.

that dun work, red dots, you put on eye on the "sight" and one on the target, voala, a lttle red dot on the target, pretty cool but hard to ge used to

NO LASER SIGHTS!!! very dangerous, and gets you spotted

I have an ADCO Hot Shot sight and it is a red dot sight. The difference, which you seem to closely grasp, is that a red dot sight only projects a red laser dot on a clear screen, so that you can superimpose the dot on any target instead of it actually being projected on the target. Many scenarios and fields will not allow the use of a projected laser sight because of the hazards to people’s eyes, so you would most likely have to get a red dot sight anyway. I actually had a similar idea with taping a flashlight under the barrel and playing at night, but I have yet to experiment with this. Your best bet is for something like the Hot Shot, which is only about $30, and is warrantied against paintball hits.

IMO The red dot is the only sight suitable for paintball. they typically have no magnification, and eye relief is not an issue. you can use your red dot in close to your face or hold it at arms length. The dot is where your gun is pointed.

because of the ballistics involved in paintball, a laser sight is not going to be very usefull. At the range where you might need to use it, it will be hard to see on your target, and if you zero it for close range, a longer range shot will fall short. As for taping it, I doubt it would retain zero very well and would probably be a waste of time.

Fiber optic sights can also be useful, but will not be adjustable at all.

Personally I have an adco red dot, that i have set to be accurate at about 50 yds. I use it mostly just for the longer range shots, and even then, I mostly use it as a reference point.

in my expereince, sights don't really help that much, maybe in long woods games and stuff like that, but i've never played scenario games. and paintballs aren't bullets so they don't really go where you aim. it would probly help right to left aiming though. the only thing i'd ever buy would have to have some major magnification power to spot people more than to aim

I'd have to agree here ... Plus, I tend to take longer to aim using a dot sight, because I want to pull the marker closer to my face and "acquire" the target before shooting, whereas without the dot sight, I tend to snap and shoot, aiming down the barrel.

Of course, this is just me, and I've only used a dot sight a few times. I don't have one. But, as with everything to do with paintball, get what fits your style and preferences.

I tried the flashlight thing under the barrel and it does not work! I played when it was pitch black, which was cool because the flashlight helped me to see things. But when I fired I had that little gas cloud come out in front of the barrel. The flashlight would light up the co2 cloud and reflect the light back into your face. The co2 cloud was so thick it blocked the light of the flashlight. I had to fire from my hip which was real inaccurate because the light in the co2 cloud blocked my vision. I'm goint to try mounting the light further back and see if it makes any difference. If your gun doesn't have the co2 cloud come out the end of the barrel then the light should work, and will be cool.
