View Full Version : My idea for homemade rear cocking.

I have an idea on how to make your own rear cocking. You could drill a hole in the end cap, drill a hole in the bolt insert, and try to put something in the bolt insert for a cocking rod. To hold the insert in place, you would have to have something to replace the stock cocking knob, maybe a dowel rod. You would have to drill a hole in whatever you used to replace the stock cocking knob, so that the drive spring would be able to go through it. For the cocking knob, you might be able to use an old bicycle spoke, and thread it into the hole you would drill into the bolt insert. The bolt insert is aluminum, so I'm sure you could drill a hole in it with a regular drill and maybe a titanium bit, and the hole wouldn't have to be that deep. You could put something on the end of the bicycle spoke to make it easier to cock. For safety reasons, you would need a beaver tail. What do you guys think? Do you think it would work?
Here's a pic of my idea so far: (see attachment)

ya it would work i think..
haha saftey reason..imgainie gettting"stabbed" by a spoke...
i saw one pic in the pic thread with a string with a ball attached to the rear bolt through a hole in the endcap.
looked like those girly pencils but it was a good idea

good idea...
and maybe some kind of beaver tail though...
and how are you going to get the rod to stay in the bolt? jb weld or something?
BMXer
07-20-2003, 01:30 PM
That's the one thing I'm not sure about; bicycle spokes have threads on one end of them, and I'm pretty sure they'll thread into the bolt insert, but I'm not sure if they will withstand the force of someone cocking it.

07-20-2003, 01:48 PM
this will totally cost at the most 5 bucks?

07-20-2003, 01:51 PM
if you have a drill (with bits), JB weld, a wooden dowl, and a metel rod laying around...
BMXer
07-20-2003, 03:23 PM
Relentless, what you said about jb weld got me thinking. You could let the threaded end of the bicycle spoke stick out of the endcap so that you could screw the spoke nipple onto the threaded end of the spoke. The spoke nipple would make a good cocking knob. You could drill a hole the size of the spoke into the bolt insert, and use jb weld to hold the spoke in the bolt insert. I'll get a pic of my current idea soon. How much does jb weld cost? Would the drill bit break in the bolt insert?
Relentless
07-20-2003, 05:56 PM
drill bit wont break... its only allumium :P
and jb weld is 5 or 10$... not sure...
and if you have a tap and di, you could thread the hole and the rod (bike spoke) and just screw it in... less perminant (jb weld is...) but just as strong
that would make both sides threaded...

Does anyone know how far into the rear bolt insert the spoke should go?
Relentless
07-22-2003, 09:13 AM
how are you holding it in?
maybe 1/2 an inch for jb weld
if your threading it, 1/4 would work

I'll probably use JB weld... if I do it; thanks for the info.

You won't need a spare rear bolt, just a bolt insert; I made the hole in my endcap with a shortened bike spoke and a hammer, then I cleaned the hole up, made the hole a little bigger so that the spoke would slide through it better. You can barely see the hole in the endcap; the hole isn't that hard to make, because there's only like 3mm of plastic that you have to get through. The hard part I going to be drilling the hole right. BTW does the hole I drill have to be the exact same size as the bike spoke if I use JB weld??

07-23-2003, 06:55 AM
It's done except for the part I'm going to need to replace the cocking knob; it holds up without using JB weld, but I'm going to put some in there today so it will hold up better. I'll try to get some pics of the finished product sometime. I haven't actually gassed my gun up and shot it yet, but it should work fine. Does anyone want to see instructions on howw do to this? Also, does anyone have suggestions for making a side cover?

The popiscle sticks work like a charm, but they're a little hard to make. You can hardly tell that the side cover is wooden, and IMO, they look just as good, if not better than any other side cover. IMO, they also work as good as, if not better than any other side cover, but maybe I'm just proud of my creation:D. The two side covers that I made can be installed and uninstalled with no tools; cool huh?

Speak for yourself, because even though I think the Full Boar one looks better, I don't think it looks 5x better; it also depends on how you do it. The Full boar costs a couple of bucks more, I would have to get a phillips head screwdriver to get it off, and I would have to order a side cover and wait for it to come in. I can make a bunch of side covers with $2.00 and a hot glue gun. Maybe I'll get a Full Boar slot cover one day, but for now, this one works fine. :D

LOL, no, the rear cocking mod is the only thing like that, andjust incase everyone doesn't know, the popsicle stick is the side cover. On my marker I'm soon (probably Tuesday) to have a Lapco Autospirit 9oz BE tank , 12oz tank, KAPP Tear drop forward, KAPP on/off ASA, Vertical adapter, Dead On X-core x-chamber, APP dogbone offset, homemade rear cocking, homemade side cover, Psycho Ballistics double trigger guard, and gray macroline.

I thought you were talking about the side cover when you said popsicle stick, because that's what the side cover is made of; I was talking about the side cover that Full Boar makes when I was talking about a phillips head, because they need a phillips head screwdriver for installation. I plan on getting a Full Boar Shadow one day, but for now, I'll keep my homemade rear cocking.
Does anyone want me to post the instructions?

:peace: I want rear cocking the same reason you want rocket cock. You can't even tell that the side cover is a popsicle stick, and the bike spoke doesn't look bad. I don't see how a rocket cock would look much better, or work much better than my rear cocking mod; I'm working on a way to make it look better. The only part that look a little bad is the bike spoke, but every one I've showed the mod to didn't know it was a bike spoke until I told them. This mod is not a homemade Full Boar rear cocking; it's just a homemade rear cocking mod. Another reason I wanted to do it is because I like to mess around with my paintball gun. For my friend's application, my side cover is actually better than the Full Boar side cover; my friend cocks his gun with a little pin, pulls the pin out, and put his side cover on. (I will explain more of that later).

Yeah, that is why I am getting it. Because I like to spend my money on something uglay (is that some kind of french accent kind of thing??)
First, I am broke because I recently bought a computer and my tippmann with my savings. So no, I don't like to spend my money on things that are "uglay."
The reason I bought it was because I don't want any external moving parts. <---That is the main reason. But also I want the seal that it makes so that I don't get paint/dirt/water in my internals.
No, I dont want the full boar shadow for a couple reasons. I got a deal on my DOP Rocket Cock. The full boar is 6 and a half times as much money. Second, I could have made my own for $5  . But that still doesn't have the main feature that I am looking for. That bike spoke will still move...
And I am not going to ask Smith...because I don't know what you want me to ask smith. And quite frankly I don't care what smith has to say. If he wants to say it fine, but I still am going to like the Rocket Cock that will come and be attached to MY gun on Wednesday.
One more thing though, if this thing is so dang ugly, then why do half of the people have one on their gun in this gallery. m98modstop (http://www.m98modstop.com/gallery.htm) And most of the others have the full boar. There arent many that have nothing, or a homemade rear cocking system with a popsicle stick.

I am not a "sniper". But I choose my shots wisely. Usually from behind if possible. But I move into position and move behind them until I know I can hit them with ease. Then when they are fully concentrating on someone or something else I open up on them with a quick 5-8 shots. Then I am back behind good cover again. And with the stock hopper you have what, 4-6 shots in the stack, so, it works well.

Ok, think really hard. Maybe I dont want to spend $65 on the Full Boar with no external moving parts. Maybe I don't want to spend $35-100 on a barrel right now. I am satisfied with the performance of my gun stock, anything above and beyond just excedes my expectations. I am 15 and work my a** off for minimum wage. I can't get a job anywhere else until I am 16 because nobody wants people that are under 16. So between my computer and my gun, and paint and air, that doesn't leave much money left over to pay for my cell phone bill and anything else I want to buy. Never ever did I say I was poor. I just don't have a lot of money right now. I worked all of last year when I was 14 making minimum wage, and saved almost every penny of it. Then I have worked all that I can now that I am 15 at the same place, still at minimum wage, still saving. But I decided to by a computer and my paintball gun, and guess what, my bank account is considerably smaller.
$1300 computer
$250 for 98c package (it was a good package)
$45 on another case of paint.
And that was almost all of my money. And I didn't make it by just bagging groceries. That is the smallest part of my job actually. After cleaning the store, bathrooms, all the garbage, pushing carts, sorting bottles, cleaning the machines, doing odd errrons for cashiers, cleaning spills, taking care of damaged items, doing things customers want me to do, and restocking shelves, I don't have any down time. I move constantly for my whole shift. I am in no way complaining, but I can upgrade my gun the way I want to. If I could get a JnJ for $15, that would be awesome and I would jump right on it. But I am going to save my money until winter, and then upgrade things when I don't spend money on other things like paint and air.
I just got my gun like 3 weeks ago. Many of you have probably had yours a lot longer, so obviously you have more upgrades for it. MEH, I am not getting rid of my cell phone. I can't drive yet, so I need to call my mom to have her pick me up. I hate to cut a day of paintball short because I estimated the wrong time for it to get over with. And I also got a sweet deal. $10 a month for 100 minutes. It is all I need. Again though, I am going to upgrade my gun to the way I want it. I don't really care if you guys think I should get other parts instead, I wanted this thing, so why do you guys really care all that much?

LOL, I was just joking about you getting me a 98c; I already have a 98c. I haven't flamed you unless you've said something that offended me. You can't expect to make a remark about someone and not get a response. Anyway, back to the topic, the rear cocking works great, the RVA needs a little more work on it, and side cover isn't working as well as it was originally, because the wood has changed it's shape as it has been took on and of so many time.

Well folks, this thread has been off topic for two pages. And it seems that the homemade rear cocking has been dealt with. Closed.
