I have always thought experianced players should be nice to newcomers to help their sport, ihave played for 3 years and i get better all the time and when i started no one was nice to me. Not that that is bad i think it helped me, but when i started i got lit up by a couple of angels at my local feild before i could even pull the barrel plug outa my first spyder. After the first couple of games and bottles of tylenol i realized what i could to to improve. And i surpised myself at my last visit to my local paintball feild (the same place where i learned to play) and there was a group of newbies who all had new Piranahs and they were talking like they had been spankin people in paintball for years, so when the whistle blew i flanked em all out without hesitation and a couple games later they abrubtly left, I started feeling bad, i don't want to scare anyone away from paintball but wiat a second if they weren't man enough to take a whoopin maybe this isn't the sport for them. a so what i am asking is should we be nice to the newbies and let them win? or should we show em how to loose before they know how to win? thanks

The point is to find a good balance. When you go out there to play with newbies, don't be a jerk about it. Those of us with our own guns should never act like our crap doesn't stink.

I find that a LOT of the time newbies look to you for advice on the field. If you know how to help, then do so, if not, then tell them so.

DOn't go easy on them either though. Make the teams even, and make sure that they are having fun. Ask them if they are, observe how they react when getting hit etc.

If they are getting pissed off, take it easy on them, or fix the teams... it depends on the situation.

What you DO want to do, is make it a very enjoyable experience. If they had fun, they will likely play again, and they will likely invite their friends. And so on, and so on.

Whats the moral? make an impression, but don't be an *******.

i don't play w/newbies, the gun owners and the newbies play differant fields, newbs dig the woods, we play sup air, hyperball and hyper mound. But the newbies sneak in a game or 2 of speed ball once in a while. They like it that way, and if they want to play w/the big boys, it's thier paint.

I'm with Richy. Most of the newbs just hide and "snipe", as they like to call it. The ratio of newbies to gun owners is like.. 70:15, so it's hard getting a gun owners group together. I always want to play sup' air and speedball. None of the newbs like that, so I always get pissed off at them. I'm gonna start going on Wednesdays and practice with the local team instead of playing around with the newbies.

If newbies are bigmouthing, i'd beat em good 1 time. (DO NOT LIGHT THEM UP). If they still bad mouth...Beat em a little better...If this doesn't work, and they still think they're the shiznit, light em up good :)

First you have to remember that at one time, we were all newbies. I ddnt have anybody to tell me anything either. But now I try tobe nice to newbies, like I give them advice. On the field I usually dont go easy on them. Its not like I try tofil them up with paint. But I wont think twice about bunkering tem.

You have to stop and think, if they had the chance to bunker you, would they take it? I think MOST ppl would (if they know what it means to bunker someone). So I don't see the harm in it, as long as you don't light 'em up.

They only way that they're gonna get better is by being beat and seeing what tactics work. Rember the saying "Monkey see, Monkey do"?

I am nice to newbies on the newbie fields, but if they want to play high end, they are going to get sho out high end style. BTW, i didn't bunker any newbies yesterday, i made them surrender

Well you should of bunkered them. that is being nice to newbies they have to learn! but still you should tell them tips and keys to the field and ways to play a certant bunker! andyway.... dont treat them any diferantly on the field cuz they have just a good a chance of getting you out! But off the field talk to them make them feel like one of the gang. anyway i usally am nice to them unless they run their mouth about your gun and stuff. then i give em what for on the field!

whenever newbies come to the field refs tell me to take it easy on em, they probly want them to come back. most of 'em surrendered before i even had time to aim at them  and one guy made the biggest mistake i've ever seen, he hid in a hyperball pipe! he got bunkered pretty bad, he's not gunna do that again.

i think if ya cant hack it dont play the game
the fisrt tim i got hit i got 2 bounces and a break and it was by a hot gun so my shirt was soaked in blood and i didnt even know it till my friends dad pointed to the big red spot on my shirt ADRENALINE IS A WONDERFUL THING
i dont think you should let up for newbies but i dont think you should shoot 13+bps at them either
and even if they are annoying help em out a lil bit cause you were one too once

It's not the rate of fire that counts, it's the users disgression and ability to control it. I can't rember ever shooting some one over 6 times, not even 4 w/my bushy

I've done this a few times to newbies. But not intentionally.
It's real easy to do if your longballing someone, it gets difficult to tell if your hitting, are they bouncing, etc. etc.
also ALOT of new players have that tendency to just cover up when they're hit rather than calling themselves out, just making matters worse

but they didn't have to be. They just showed me how to use and laod the gun (that caused some snickers) and then we were off, me hiding behind bushes nad in fields, taking potshots at the guys with semis. They were mean though. They would find me and shoot be up with their guns. But anyway, I would just go out and unload on the newbies. I didn't ask for anyone to be nice to me and didn't expect it. But yeah, scare them off, they'll get better and better.

I hear ya Chris, that's the way i feel and whether is right or not that is how it is at alot of places and how many players, myself included, got better, and figured out how to fix their mistakes. If you are too scared to get shot at then maybe paintball isn't the sport for you, the first time anyone plays it is very intimidating but that is part of the game, and come on it just doesn't hurt that bad. The cycle of life in paintball: "you start at the bottom of the food chain and with some practice, experiance, and finance you will rise to the top of it". you have to prove yourself, and if at first you fail, try and try again, and thanks to everyone who responded,
