To play in a tourney your marker must be worth more than $600. It's tourney rule number 4.56.7. You must have custom milling and be able to shoot 16bps MINIMUM rule 5.46.8. As long as your marker fits these rules you are fine.

J/K. You can play with pretty much anything in a tourney. As long as it's not full auto.

Is it bad for tournaments? It's only bad if you can't hit what you aim at.

Just be sure when you pop out the right side of a bunker, you tilt it to the left and tuck in the Cyclone when shooting. Plus it'll help your vision.

A-5s are great for local tourneys, such as indoor fields.

tippmanns are greatly overated, the general consensus seems to be that if your gun isn'[t a flashy electro than you can't compete, but thats just not true. its been proven time and time again.

I agree with Meph, if you can hit what you aim at an A-5 will do fine :P

Underrated, you mean? If that is what you mean, then I agree with that.

Yeah the Tippmann A-5... Alot of tournaments wont let u use them. Its mainly because they are mostly used for full auto and dont have a tournament lock on them... altho some dont see it as a problem since u have to open the gun up to change modes.

Spoken like someone who's got no experience with the Tippmann A-5.

While a lot of people MAY indeed modify thier A-5 to shoot full auto (because MOST scenario games allow F/A), but it ships stock and DOESN"T need a tourney lock because you can't change any modes of fire (with the E-Grip) without tools, quite unlike MOST other Electros.

The RT isn't tourney legal because it "cheats" the semi- only rule even though it technically shoots one ball for each trigger pull.

If you want to know if the A-5 is good for Tourneys, ask Tippmann Effect, who used MOSTLY stock A-5s a few days back to win both the 5 man and 7 man amature events at the Diablo IAO. It seemed to work just fine for them.

1) Actually, most Scenarios DON'T allow full auto. One of the only places that allow it is Hells' Survivor in Michigan. Otherwise, still semi-automatic and pump ONLY. Insurance regulation.

2) It wasn't mostly A-5's. It was about half and half of A-5 and 98s. Leaning more towards actually 98s. But still Tippmanns none the less.

And they are gonna be switching to all 98s soon

Its fine for tourny's all u need it a new barrel, and like a double trigger and dropforeward. thats all u really neeed. then u can just practice with it.

Hey Meph,

What exactly is the truth about that whole switching to M98s thing? Since the IAO last year that's been the going comment, but Evan Aris posted (before he was booted from the team) on the Tippmann forum before that PB2X got the quote wrong from the interview and that the A-5 was going to become the standard marker for the team.

So which is it?

Also, if the switch is on to m98s from the A-5 why is that? Is it a weight issue? Cyclone issue? E-Grip Issue? Or is it just plain preference?

And as for the E-grip, how have you managed to get trigger bounce on it... I've been working on a few trigger mods and know of a few that will shorten the stroke needed to activate the trigger switch, but nothing so drastic as to allow trigger bounce...

As for the Scenario thing, almost every scenario I've been to has allowed modes other than Semi, though I do stand corrected as to the full auto comment. It's slowly opening up because the problem with "full auto and insurance" is basically meaningless with markers that can dump 12 to 15bps in semi-auto mode. Technically, isn't that just as dangerous?

The A-5 is not F/A. It has a Cyclone feed so it can shoot very fast, but it depends how fast your finger moves. And it will never go F/A with out any additions. The A-5 is completely legal in tourneys as far as I know.

Incase you didnt know, semi-auto is when you press the trigger once and one ball shoots out, which the A-5 does.
