Where the hell did you hear that?

You don't need an LPR. However, without one, you will only be able to achieve moderate to good performance because you have to compromise for several things. Better efficiency is had with higher pressure, but you can't go to high without hurting the solenoid and causing to much kick. So you compromise and wind up in the middle.

With the LPR, you can adjust the valve and solenoid pressure independantly, so you can have the best of both worlds. But on the down side it adds weight, size, and an extra thing to go bad at just the wrong time. So the lpr setup as a whole is in itself a compromise.

...now how does having a VFF change all that? B/C you said you don't need an LPR with a VFF

every impulse ever made needs to have some sort of air mod in order to operate correctly and proficiently (eliminating bolt stick and increasing cyclic speed). If you need to know more about that subject, check the FAQs and do a search.

The VFF and the LPR are both air mods. Since you can only use one at a time, you have to choose. With the 03 Rat, the VFF is standard. It is the best non-lpr air mod, bar none!

The LPR and the VFF both have there ups and downs.... so it's up to you to do the homework and figure out wich one fits YOU the best!

I didn't know every Impulse needs an air mod...should I just get a tapeworm for mine?

Yeah, I think they said the RIP valve works best with the ANS jackhammer LPR.

Yes, Mr. Stick of Cheese
Our scenario loving friend is correct. The ND valve works awesome with the ANS LPR! It will work well with the autococker style LPRs. The best of which is the ANS JH II and the SP MiniFlow.

yes, you can buy an lpr without buying a VFF
It would actually be a waste of your money to buy both since you can only use one at a time on your gun.

I suggest checking out the FAQ sections, and also the picture thread, You can see the different setups like LPRs and VFFs and Tapeworms.

Also surf through the impulse dealers websites. They can also contain good information on gear and show some great examples of them for sale.

Doing those things will help you become more familiar and knowledgable about the Impulse.
