Comments/Conculsions: Great field. The staff are especially fun and helpful. They might very well have the best gun tech in Tennessee; if he has the parts he will not just fix it on the spot, but make it better. The Pro Shop is pretty nice too. They carry a variety of guns and can make or order ANYTHING you want. They also have a tourney every season (spring winter summer fall) and the prizes vary from loads of cash to cockers.

At one point we had around 12-14 people playing. Nobody complained and everybody was trustworthy to whether they got shot. The refs didn't even have to come onto the field. Those guys run that field great, and if I wasn't from Wisconsin, I'd play there more often.

management is much nicer and knowledgable. I've only played
there once, but ALL of my friends thatplay believe that
RockyCreek's refs aren't as good, owner isn't as nice, and
overall everything is worse than First Strike's. Oh, that's what
I believe too.

This was my first time at a field in Tallahasse because I just moved up here, and I had a very good time. I went with some friends, played all day, and only payed about 50$. Like i said, I like the courses, and the people are friendly enough. All sorts of players, from High end Cockers to Bushmasters to Tippmanns and Fishy's. No "Hey you're gun sucks" people, the high end users were actually very friendly. Overall, a good experience. This oughta be fun enough to keep me from outlaw for a while. (just a while:D)

Comments/Conculsions: Better than it's father-field "Badlands" The guy that's in charge of Counter-Strike runs the place smoothly. Although they have only one field, it can hold a 7vs.7, which is alright. It's good for parties and the like. The people that own the field though forget to replace the shot out lights, so the fields dark a lot of times. Good mix of bunkers, but they have only cleaned the field once in the past 2 years and they don't always air up the bunkers.Gets a 6 outa 10.

The Pevs@AG field is the premier field in NVA. That being said they do have a few negatives...They have the 2nd best parking (VAGames is better) of all NoVA's three fields and they also have the distinction of being the trickiest to get to. They're accessible from Rt. 15 in Leesburg, Sycolin Road in Ashburn or Route 7. Go to their website for directions. The Pevs field is the most expensive to play, either as a rental or if you have your own Equipment. Those negatives aside, I really enjoy the variety of their fields.

They have some great speedball fields, a slick Sup Air Field and the woods fields are large, and well designed. The nice thing is that they continue to improve from what was in woodbridge. Their parking lot is being filled with gravel this spring to take care of the mud. They're adding a castle to Winter Woods and redoing the village and compound, with the compound getting a much needed bridge. The fields are spacious and it's not overly crowded playing 30 on 30. I personally enjoy the Rock Garden field that greets you as you drive in. The sandbags are a nice touch...better than the stacked cordwood at Hogback and VAGames.

The staff at Pevs is much more professional than the other VA fields (with Skyline a close second). They cater well to large groups and the employees are easy to deal with at one of their stores or on the phone. They have a covered staging area with brand new picnic tables and lights. The pro shop is decent, I've seen better, but hell it's damn nice compared to the other two fields. You can pay by cash or Credit Card here. The facility is indoors and has a TV for mom and dad to relax while the kids play. They have a nice grill, BBQ area for food at lunch time and two refill areas (for N2 and CO2), which are both covered.

They require rentals to buy field paint, which is also the most costly of the fields. They also require barrel condoms as opposed to barrel plugs. The games are well organized for walk-ons or for groups. (We took 50 people from my office out there with no snags whatsoever.) My strongest dislike for Pevs and the one thing I *REALLY* wish they'd change is their policy for groups...where you only get 3 hours with rental equipment. I find it an extreme rip-off to have people have to pay an extra $15 to have a group play all day usually on top of the highest field paint prices and group prices.

Some of the younger refs aren't as good and the games have a tendency to suffer, but this is true anywhere. The teams tend to have a run of the Sup Air and Speedball fields which can be intimidating to walk-ons who want to play up there. Way too many egos.

The popularity of the new Pevs field has filled the place on many days and they have been getting close to running out of rentals for walk-ons, on occasion. This is the most expensive field, but they can get away with it since they pack the place every Sat or Sunday. Many of the Pevs Store personnel also work the fields on the weekends. Todd from the Fairfax store is a regular out there and is a top notch guy to deal with.

For younger players with limited income, Pevs can get pricey, well over $20-25 a day with your own equipment. Well over $55-60 if you're renting. The proshop has good eq to sell and if your equipment breaks, they can fix some problems on site. They get started at 9 on the money and end at noon. Break for lunch and start again and go from 1-4 every Saturday and Sunday. The guys that work there are pretty good about keeping egos in check and about booting unsafe people. (I saw 2 kids a few weeks back booted for opening up full auto on a guy that was out.)

The employees are a pleasure to talk to and cooperative. Hogback had guys that were OK but they had an ego problem. VAGames also had some helpful employees as well, but just not to the level of Pevs. Pevs also has something that the other fields don't...room to grow. It seems like they're always opening up new fields or planning new things for the fields that are already there. With as many people as they get, they have the $$ to continue to do so well into the future. They also make concerted efforts to maintain the existing fields.

Though they're pricey, they're by far the best. It also helps that they have 7 or 8 local stores with employees who know the game and can help you with what you need.

Hogback Mountain is the furthest of the 3 fields from the DC or Fairfax Area. It's located off of Route 15 just before Leesburg. It's not well marked (though the road you turn off on is Hogback Mountain Road...) and unless you're looking for it, it would be easy to get lost. After a 2 mile drive through the estate you finally get to the field. Parking was a bit tight but not to bad. The price for players with their own equipment was $10 and rentals were $30. This is slightly more from the $25 that VAGames charged for rentals but less than Pevs $35. Payment was Cash only, which is kind of a downer and not fun for those of us who like to pay with Plastic. The fields were probably the nicest woods fields of the ones I played in Northern VA. Some of the terrain blew and the stacked wood didn't add much to the game. I mean...geez...they should go blow $100 at Home Depot and buy some plywood and build cheap bunkers. The walk up the mountain to the fields was a bit of endurance and the fields though awesome for woodsball were depressing for speedball but better than other locales.

The refs there weren't particularly good, but I've seen worse. (See also VAGames). The place as a whole didn't do a good job letting people know when games were starting and they need to get more organized. The games were quite good and there's some real talent that plays there. I'd go back, if only for that reason. I've heard their scenario games are great due to the interesting fields, hopefully those games are more organized. I didn't like the fact that they only take walk-ons on Sundays...and the Sunday I went the first time it was a hopperball weekend...that didn't seem smart. Check It Paintball in Chantilly (and Fairfax) has more info on Hogback. Their field paint prices weren't too unreasonable. (I recommend Check-It for getting paint...they're the cheapest in Northern VA...I go to the store in Chantilly for my cases). The field can be reached from the Metro area in any one of a number of ways...Route 50 to Route 15, Route 7 (or the Toll Road) to Route 15, etc. If I were to compare Hogback to Pevs old field, Hogback would be the top dog...but the new Pevs field at AGPaintball is just ahead of Hogback. The fact that Hogback is backed by a solid store like Check-It helps a lot too. They regularly attract a large crowd and is a great escape for some great games. There's no proshop so you're on your own if something breaks. The picnic tables are a nice touch and let you work on your marker as time permits. Parking is muddy and tight...get there early. All in all, pretty decent but without the variety of Pevs.

Styles of Play Available: According to some of there advertisements they offer woods, speedball, and a scenario course, but what I found when I got there was a couple fields made out of tires, OSB (chip board) and hay bales. As for the woods it should not be able to be considered woods, the size of there "woods" field is about 100'x65' and the biggest tree on the field is no more than 4" in diameter. And the scenario course well if you see a scenario course let me know.

Comments/Conclusions: This place is the worse; I have seen backyard fields better then this one. They seem to have jumped into paintball for an instant profit. They have some sort of ridiculous membership dues that start at $150 and go to $450, and all you get is the field fee for a year with the $150 one and with the $450 you get the field fee for the year, 2 cases of junk paint and some Wal-Mart Special roller bag. So all in all I would say stay away from this field it is one of the biggest rip off ever.
Also one other thing now myself and the rest of my team are no longer aloud to play at this field and the only reason the owner gave us was that god told him not to allow us on his field. So players beware!!!

Comments/Conculsions: The biggest complaint I've heard from people is that they play the same fields week in and week out, but the reason of that is that the refs let the players choose which fields to play on. I've also talked to one of the head refs and he's in the process of building a few more "themed" fields (like the Castle and the Western City). During the winter there can be groups over 100 which they divide up into smaller groups. Most of the refs are very good, and all play paintball themselves. Great place for newbies and intermediate players to go to learn speedball (but speedball field lacks a bit for the more experienced players) and great place to play woodsball. Most of the people who play there are good sports with good attitudes, though you get a couple of bad seeds. The good players that play there are more skillfull and don't rely on spray and pray to eliminate players. This field also includes a field shop as well as a gun tech on almost every weekend.

RockyCreek's refs aren't as good, owner isn't as nice, and

This place is very friendly. Open speedball/airball /urban combat areas as well as wooded speedball .There are some "Team Speedball"players that offer stiffer competion and for the most part don't complain to much about those of us that want to get to that level. We(6players)all love the atmosphere there, it's becomming our home field. Try it out for yourself. BYOP on Sundays, all prices are competitive with other fields with the same services. Last sunday we ate lunch there - 1 large,1 topping pizza = 6 dollars. Cold Drinks, clean bathrooms. I showed up once without my mask and was promptly loaned one at no charge. Comments/Conculsions: this place is awesome( except for a couple snotty refs...outa like 7) it has a bunch of nice people at the store, its fields are awesome, its rentals are awesome.....if u want a private group ask them if u can get the little kid ref, or the old man ref(they are the best ones)



Only thing I gotta say about Ultimate is that the Ultimate Kids (and some of Team Ultimate) will get on the field and almost ruin the game for you. They won't play apart from each other and will play you 3 on 6 with basically an unlimited paint buget from the store. It's fun playing with Team Ultimate because they're actually good, but the Ultimate Kids mostly just sling paint your way and use accuracy by volume. Other than that, it's a great speedball place.

Comments/Conculsions: An all around great place to play, but since it is still relatively new (opened in fall 2003) around here, and most people just play outlaw except the tourney ballers and people that don't really care for woods (they're the only ones that play here). Sometimes newbs come out and play, but that's because they probably think we've got more than one field here (I play here all the time and work for community service hours at the store). Not much of a tech setup at the field so if something goes down you need have your own toolbox and parts to fix it. If you've got a manual, they can fix most anything. As long as you've got these three things: manual, tools to fix problem, parts to replace bad ones, you're good to go.

I give it an 8 right now, but they're getting better and more & more people are coming out now on Sundays.

Hours: 10am-Dusk on Sundays year-round, rain or shine.

Mccoys is a good place to take your team to practice against other teams that will give you a challenge. Overall one of my favorite places to go.

I don't know of any paintball fields in SC that can match them. I agree that they still lack in speedball time but thats not their money maker...woodsball and scenerio games are. The owners are very honest and really love paintball. Both owners got me into playing paintball and have gained a great customer. Paintball of Charleston is just the best.
