I got an awsome Spyder Compact and a Stingray II as my back-up. My dad usually uses the Stingray when we play. But lately its been breaking paint really, really bad. I got the 12'' Eagleworks barrel and a 20oz on it and it works pretty good (when the balls dont break!) I've even sanded down the rough edge on the bolt but it still breaks paint REALLY bad. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be wrong and how to fix it? Thanx.

Well, in my experiences with my brother's stingray, the bolt slams forward WAY too hard to prevent any and all chops, but changing the detent ball (a little BB in front of where the paintball rests before firing) from stainless steel to acrylic, and replacing the dinged up bolt will eliminate a large majority. I think you want to go to the STING group's page for the info you need.

Is the bore size of your barrel and the size of your paint. What type of paint are you using? Sometimes if it's realy dimpled or has flat spot, this could also be a problem. What is your velocity? If it's too high(shooting hot) then you may need to turn it down some. Is the paint breaking in the barrel or is it being chopped?

The paint we've been using we've been ordering off the internet and it comes in plain white boxes so I dont know who makes it. The paint shoots pretty nice in my Spyder so its not bad quality paint. Also, the paint is being chopped.

Throw it away or give it to the garbage man

The quality of you paint may be the problem, since you order it off the internet the shipping can be a little rough on the balls so that when they arrive they arent exactly in tip-top shape. what i would suggest to you is that if you live near a wal-mart or a paintball shop, go in and buy your paint on-site. Some good, cheap suggestions that work well in a stingray are:
Diablos
PMI Premiums, or Super Swirls
Sheridans
These three are high quality paintballs and work pretty well in a stingray, although they wont eliminate ball breakage, they will reduce it.
Another thing that will help is if you change the barrel. go to paintballlover.com and check out their barrel section. I dont know which barrels exactly, but some of them have stingray threads.

i know when i used my sting i had the velocity way up so i turned it down abot a turn and a half it still shot good and it never broke any more paint and as is the type of paint i was using it was zap or after burners and i do know the are a poorer quality paint but thet never seemed to give me any problems
hope this helped

my friend who has a stingray (stock) uses afterburners because of the really thick shell on them so he rarely gets breaks, i tried the afterburners once playing, the shell is to thick for me
shoot out from about 50 yards apart between me and another guy playing woodsball, i decided to take a run at him, i charged and he turned and ran, i hit him 6 times in the back and none broke @ 30 yards,
so really its your choice on using a thicker shell paintball or getting a new barrel or mainly just whatever your wallet allows

It's probably the paint/barrel bore match like previously stated. I use a CMI Tru-flight Thunderpig barrel on my Stingray II Ice with Diablo Dusks and it it's only broken one ball since then (outta like 4000 balls)
