Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the average feet per second tend to range around 290-300 FBS, maybe even 280. A fellow paintballer says that most feilds (outdoor ones) have a max FBS of 240. From what I know, this is VERY incorrect, but I haven't been to to many feilds. Could some one please clarify for me what the average feet per second rule is at most feilds? Thanks.

Most indoor places chrono at 240. Most outdoor is 285-300.

During a speedball or sup' air game, the ref's usually make sure our guns are 260fps coming on, 270 coming off. 240 for small indoor areas isn't uncommon.
For the larger woodfields, the limit is 280fps.

heres a little history lesson....
when paintball first started, too many people were breaking fingers, specifically the pinky. reason being, paintballs were too fast hitting fingers with too much force that the finger would break. the problem was brought to doctors and scientists, and after running several tests, they figured the point of a paintball actually breaking a finger was a rate of 300 feet per second. im not sure wat distance it was measured from, but htey considered under 290 safe.

The feild he played at was outdoors, so I think he was lying when he said 240FBS. Thanks for the info.

outdoor paintball fields go around 280-300, though if you want lower you can go lower.
indoor small fields, like that of my local Boston Paintball Supply :), are very teeny, and it always hurts to get hit. (But i dunno, i think it is just the crap paint they use), Anyway, they limit it to 240.

The field where I ref/play at has a 280 FPS limit.
We also do chrono checks through out the day to help curb the problems of people shooting hot guns.
