I just got my automag in the mail, but there's a friggin $157 customs fee!! I don't know want went wrong. The seller used USPS and insurance the package. The delivery guy has taken back the package to the post office. I'm going to try to clear things up next week. Any idea on how I can get the charges dropped? Will I HAVE to pay the $157 fee???
Of course you have to pay it. That is what the Canadian government does to Canadians who buy from outside Canada, you have to pay a price. This is what customs is my friend.

yeah man, you'll have to pay it like I did. The only way to really avoid these fees is to have it valued low and not insured. But then if the package is lost, you be screwed.

You think thats bad?
I ordered 2 striker buffers from paintballonline.com worth ~5$ usd each.. So I figured a total of $10 for the buffers and figured on another $10 for shipping from Cali...
The moron who shipped em' insured the things (liitle rubber donuts) for $400 usd.. ?????
Anyways.. the package shows up and the UPS guy says I owe $55 cdn for brokerage..?? I almost bust a nut.. But what could I do? I had no spares, and without them I couldn't play the next day so I had to eat the damn cost...
But that sincerely pissed me off...
The only paintball item I have ever ordered and received on time for the agreed price was a 14" CP Barrel from Badlands in Toronto... Thats it.. My Bruizer Outlaw was 2 months late from CanadianPaintball.com, my nVader, 4+1 pack and synthetic oil was 2+ months late from Paintballmayhem.com
I am running out of patience for this kind of stuff.. I love the sport but it seems like all the businesses are run by rip off artists or kids who are doing it as a school project or something who commit a full hour of their day to keeping up to orders and customer service.
Now I don't buy anything unless they have it in stock in the pro shop of where ever I am.. No more mail order at all for me...

You don't have to pay all the time. Most of the time when you're forced to pay it's because of a high insurance (the shipper put $800 insurance on my gun) or if it's sent UPS.
I'm having my compressed air tank sent ground UPS, so if I get charged I'll post the costs.
If you do buy something from the states:
1) Ask the shipper to send it USPS
2) Even though it's risky, little or no insurance can save you money on border/customs fees
3) Request that the shipper sends the item as a gift
