Should the captain:
Only Handle all the paperwork, training, sign-ups, sponsership.
Play any position on the team
Play a certain position on the team
Is he merely the paperwork guy?
A Coach off the field?
Should he guide and help his team on the field?
Please lend me your opinions on What the Captain role really is.
-Thank you

A captain's role is to organize the team and provide leadership off the field. He should set up practice and handle such paperwork and other related things that may be neccessary (this doesn't mean he can't have help in these matters). He can play any position, but as for leadership on the field, this is generally handled by the center back player. Of course, if he happens to be a back player, then it is his responsibility.

So if he is not the center back, then he shouldn't provide any leadership on the field? Sounds like more of a coach rather than captain

Well, on the field, everyone should be communicating and helping each other out. But, if he plays say front, how is he to tell the team where to move and when, if he can't see what's going on?
So managing the team, setting up and running practice, planning for tournies and what not, going to the captains' meetings, and providing a central beacon of leadership isn't enough?

The August 2003 issue of Facefull has an interesting article by Rob Staundinger (Trauma's captain) about the differences between a "captain" and a "field captain."

the captin shouldn't have to run the whole game and decide where everyone has to go. i say let him play front mid back where ever, the whole team should be able to judge for themselfs where people should be going and doing. off the field is where he should be more of a coach and give tips ect.

a captain is the person who may NOT be the absolute best player on the team, but he's the person that you want to rally around when your in bad shape, and someoen that everyone will look up to.
