The Spyder TL Plus is a good beginner gun, and it goes for about 160. The PMI Pirahna series are also very nice guns, and they go anywhere from 100 to 240. I recommend the Pirahna STS. I've heard nothing but good about that gun.

you could also buy a compact. those are great guns to start off with. Also, if u have 200 bucks, the gun is onl 85 0r so, so u could get a good barrel and bottmeline setup. The tl plsu is a great beginer gun, but in the long run, ull end up tkaing off parts u payed more for. I wish i hadnt bought the shutter but a cheaper guna, nd upgraded right away, because i know how great an upgraded spyder is. But, the compact also performs great ou of the box as it is. Tippmans are good begniner guns, but ull outgrow it quickly. With a spyder, u can upgrade it to ur playing level

You can get a PMI Piranha for $144 new. It beats Spiders, Tippmanns, and Spider clones. It is even better than the $220 Spyder Shutter!

You can get a spyder compact. It's not too bad.... I like it better than a piranha, dunno why, I just do

Good thing to do if you have a Paintball store nearby ... go to the store and ask to fire a couple of rounds through a Spyder, Piranah and/or Tippman ... if nothing else, just go there and hold one, aim it, cock it, pull the trigger, ask to screw a tank on it so you feel about how heavy it will be ... then decide which one to get. :D

Piranhas are underestimated and dont get the respect they deserve. Trust me, go with a Piranha STS G2. You will be very pleased with the performance.

Spyders Rule, way better then the other two choices the only reason I told him to pick a pirahna is because I know him and he would pick my gun if he didnt

I have two things to say about this post. First of all, it IS the spyder clone, so it can't beat the spyder clone! Secondly, a Pirahna is NOT, I repeat NOT better than the spyder shutter! It just can't be better! especially right out of the box!

Well, the only difference is the Reg on the Shutter, and I think it has an expansion chamber. I don't think that really makes it a better performing marker, just has some upgrades already included.

The shutter has the worst design ever! It has a regualtor on it. Then there is an expansion chamber AFTER the reg.! That is the stupidest thing ever! You first set the PSI going into the gun with the reg.. Then it goes into the expansion chamber and gues what it does, EXPANDS! It changes the PSI! So the reg is useless. The strip pin on the shutter was taken from PMI and kingman did a bad job of copying it. The barrel on the STS is better than the shutter. The craftman****p and paint job is better. The reliability on a STS is better. And to top it off, the STS accepts all the spyder upgrades, and then some made specialy for its self! Now lets look at prices. A shutter is about $220. A STS G2 is only $144. For $66 less you get a better gun!

Ya know Nick, you're really becoming a Pain. The expansion chamber is for people who use CO2. It allows space for liquid CO2 to convert to gas. A reg can be used with CO2 also, not just Nitro/HPA. Please, Please, Please keep your Asanine comments to yourself, and stop bashing every marker that you don't like.

NickR please don't bash every gun you see...true the Kingman SHutter design is a bit faulty, but the thing is that people may still like them. And who sez the craftmanship is better? And maybe people aren't worried about the expansion chamber in front of the reg...i do admit i agree with you, but try to voice your opinion in a...nicer way :D

Yeah did you her him diss my gun

NickR

Um. Sorry I guess. I'm not trying to be an @$$. I'm not trying to dis every gun I dont like. I'm just giving advice. I didnt know I was saying things in a "mean" way. I'll be nicer I guess. I said the craftmanship is better because in many reviews i have read they talk about how the welding is done very poorly and the paint job looks cheap. When I read the piranha reviews they say it is done with care and the paint job is nice and built to last.

Nick, you got to take into consideration that people who've bought a Shutter or a TL or a Model98 might not care for your Pontifications ... You may have read a lot of stuff about a lot of different markers, but you shouldn't believe evverything you read. Instead, go out and use a lot of different markers, then you might actually have some experience to speak from.

yeah i treid out the Tippman 98, the TL plus and the Pirahna, and dispite what every one else sed, i liked the TL better. I'm not saying that it is ebtter than X marker, but i'm saying it's better for ME. and in the end, isn't that what the most important thing is? what's comfortable for you? :)

I have used an origonal piranha, a model 98, and a shutter.
The model 98 was long and uncomfterble. I could see my reflection in the shutter, and so could you people at the other end of the field. And the regualar piranha was a rental. It was beat up. But I still like the solid feel it had.

I've used the "original" piranah, which I think was a BTL, and the PMI Titan ... and maybe it's just me, but they didn't feel much different than my STS ... what sold me on the STS was the way it looked and the foregrip. Now if PMI wants to improve it, they'll put a drop forward on the next STS series, like Kingman did with the Shutter. But, hey, that's just me.
