Well im gettin a impulse very soon and I need to know if the on/off switch is nessary

Yes, unless you want to blow your gun. It operates at low PSI so you need to charge it slowly with a On/OFF anti-siphon tank.

Correction it is preferred but not necessary.

Check out the "o-ring trick" in the Impulse FAQ (# 17)

thx wolverine for the advice but it is a bit to complex for me I guess Ill have to spend the extra and get a on/off valve

how is the o-ring trick so complex? if you have the bottomline maxflo, just put an oring all the way into the area where your tank screws in. then just screw your tank in after it. it's not hard at all.
