A-5 Problems I have Experienced

-The Cyclone Feed
had problems with nitro fueling it...Problem solved by Tippmann upgrade pack w/new Cylinder piston and rachet pin. If you've bought an A-5 recently then no worries. Older A-5's check with Tippmann. They have the Vin# of the ones with the upgrade preinstalled.

-The E-Grip
had many problems to start off with. Full Auto mode needed tweeking right from the start. Problem seems to be solved as of 7/23/03 when I got mine back from tippmann. There is another problem that seems to plague only some people. (See Double Trigger)

-Flatline Barrel
read diver's review of the Flatine, in there he mentions many myths of the Flatline. There are rumors of the Flatline wears down fast (sandblast) but I have yet to notice it with mine. Like I said before Tippmann will be happy to correct in problems with your GTA products. The Flatline also can become very loose from wear and tear. I am currently trying to solve this problem. Any suggustions, tape of some sort maybe.*A tiny piece of black electric tape (not even 2cm) placed on the adaptor has the flatline fitting snug. No movement at all.

-Breaking balls? check your barrel O-ring.

-The R/T
The first R/T's were rumored to have a problem with the Gas flow adjusting Screw...But from my understanding a good Airsmith can adjust this flaw in 5 mins.

-The Double Trigger
For some unknow reason to me and a few others the Double Trigger does not mix well with the E-Grip. Bending of the Sear and lighting of the Trigger so much that a simple tap on the side of the Grip will make it go off. Also the Double Trigger (with mine) when put on full auto mode would cycle non-stop. Mine when back twice to Tippmann and I fully agree that the fault was in using the double trigger. One possible way to sovle it is to make sure you use the trigger plates/screws that come with the E-Grip and not your original ones.

-Leak Problems: (Ways to solve Straight from Tippmanns mouth)

Leaks at tank connection
Bad tank o ring
Damaged tank adapter
Damaged or bad tank valve

Leaks out the barrel
Possible bad valve internals

Leaks near the upper gas line connection
Damaged fitting on the gasline
Need to reseal the gasline w/Teflon sealant

Leaks at the tank adapter fitting
Possible bad fitting
Need to reseal fitting w/Teflon sealant

-A-5 Hopper
There are many, many cases of the A-5's Hopper breaking, cracking, etc from getting hit in the front. The Flat front design is poor for deflecting a direct hit. Ways to slove this is to reinforce the front somehow. I've modied a cone shaped front for the end of mine. A simple way is to cut out a round piece of foam to fit in the front to take any direct hits.
Once again if yours breaks and you don't want to fix it just tell Tippmann to send you another one. There is this after market loader.

-Plastic Pieces
Popular Belief it that the A-5 is completely made of plastic...uh no. Pieces that are breakable (due to high direct force) is the cocking knob, hopper, and foregrip. I have broken my cocking knob, once again Tippmann sent me a new one.

-Bottomline: to put a drop forward you need a block adapter because the a5 doesnt have the bottomline screws. Lapco and CP make adapters. Depending on the drop the stock hose will work. (I have the Razor Drop)

-I've went through all the bugs the first set of A-5's had. Four months ago my friend bought a new A-5 and I noticed he has had none of the problems I first experienced with mine. So far, so good...

-Realistic look: Alot of people are against paintball guns looking like real guns but unless you've got a better idea than pulling a trigger to fire a projectile it's going to look like a gun. Solve this problem by maybe getting the Double Trigger, Aluminum Foregrip, take out the sights, fancy dropfoward, and get a paintjob.

-The noob Factor: For some reason I hear that only noobs use A-5's and "sell your A-5 to a noob and get a better gun" Horrible people live in todays society with a tendence to flame and hate. Just remember these people make great targets on the field. An army of noobs with A-5's...an interesting thought, like sheep with miniguns.

Any other problems are best answered by Tippmann. If you encountered a problem, I find it best to email Tippmann and then take Tippmann's answer to your local Airsmith.

If anything I said you feel is wrong or needs adjusting Please let me know. Also any other ways to solve these or any other problems are welcomed. PLEASE instead of opening up 7 threads saying: Help me my A-5 is on fire or is the cyclone like a tornado... Direct all questions here. All A-5 owners I will need your help.

I have yet to use/experience Expansion Chamber's on the A-5. If anyone has had any problems install or anything, Please post here and how to solve it. I'm waiting for Tippmann's Comp Air.

-Suggested Nitro Tank: A 68/3000 and if your field/shop can fill a 68/4500. Preset psi around 800. I would say Crossfire.

The A-5 is manufactured from a variety of materials including aluminum (barrel, receiver), carbon fiber (Cyclone Feed system, front grip) and Stainless steel (many gun internals), with a black satin finish.

Like any other gun, a good cleaning after each use is all that's needed. Clean the trigger assembly with a small paintbrush. This will help you get the dirt and grime out of the trigger area. Use a pull-through squeegee to clean to the barrel. A good cleaning with warm water always helps. A small amount of oil in the internals is all you need.

Disassembly

1. Unscrew the barrel
2. Remove the four side body push pins
3. Unscrew the air line
4. Pull the lower grip apart from the main body
5. Push the trigger safety out and remove the trigger assembly.
6. Pull the end cap off
7. Slide the rear bolt out.

-Double trigger revisited
The GTA Double Trigger I used (year ago) after prolong use bent the Trigger switch on my E-Grip. This caused the switch to work impropertly (constant, random firing). Now, the double triggers released today and the E-Grip's should work fine together. If you have the choice, get the Double Trigger from a local shop, have them install it, and if there are any problems with it don't buy it. To insure that the double trigger will work, use the trigger guards/springs that come with the E-Grip and not your original ones.

-Ways you Broke your E-Grip
Please be gentle with the inside of your E-Grip or you'll regret it. Pulling on battery wires and connection points will screw up your Grip. Becareful with the trigger switch itself, it will pop out. Your Instructions will show what/where all these parts are. As for the outside, all these are protected from assault...Currently waiting for Tippmann's email opinion on if certain weather conditions can harm the E-Grip.

-Battery Replacement
Remember to always switch you E-Grip to the Off mode before you replace the battery, if you don't the armature pin will pop out.

From Tippmann:

Q:How durable are the
egrips with weather? Can i not play if its raining? misting? humid? dry?cold? moist? Will the two holes take in water?

A:As long as it is not submerged in water, you shouldn't have problems with the Egrip in those condtions you listed.

Thank You

From my understanding all the E-Grip problems have been solved. So if you buy an E-Grip today ordered directly from Tippmann from you local shop you should have a great time with it.

I was wanting to get a x-chamber for my a-5 but all the searches just show"Tippman expansion chamber"When my bro got his for his c98,the package said for c98/m98.So i was wanting to know is that one also compatible with the a-5 or is a specific x-chamber for the gun.Im currently having to use a remote line for consistency but i dont like the range you lose when using one.If and when i get one ill be sure to let all the tippy owners know what its like

Yes, the Tippmann x-chamber will work on an A-5. Just make sure if you buy it, you don't get the Tippmann x-chamber PACKAGE. That's the one that comes with a vert adapter, hose, and the x-chamber. That's for the m98/98c. As for losing range with a remote, simply put: you aren't going to lose any range by using a remote. The only way you're going to lose range is when you're low on co2.
