I Gonna be a ref! I don't sart till Jan, so until then I need as many tips as possible. I 15 so I will be telling older people what to do and need to know what you respect in a ref, and hate. I need a couple of (short) stories, that basicly say don't do this, yada yada. I know the basic rules in the feild, still have to go over some though, thatks all. Im gonna be a ref!

Nice job! Reffing is not as easy as you think....its often paintful as well (I reffed for about 3 games....I came off the field with about 8 welts).
You are now responsible for watching for wipers....make sure none of those guys get away with it!

Be fair, consistent, honest but firm. Don't let players try to talk you out of a call. Don't let them argue with you. If they do tell them to talk to the head ref and let him judge the call. If they keep giving you a hard time threaten to pull another player. if they still keep giving you a hard time pull the next player. Players need to respect the refs but the refs need to do their jobs the right way for everyone. I hate refs that show a bit of "favoritism" to certain teams. Again be fair and know the rules yourself. I've seen quite a few refs that don't know their own rules.
You are a player first. Think of the things that have happened to you on a field. Things you liked and things you disliked as far as refs go. If you were playing how would you want a certain call made? Good luck!!

Reffing has got to be the worst job ever...In all honesty...I have reffed before and it was hell. People fighting calls, etc.

Ok, but you wont be saying that when you have to run through a rope to go check a player.

The best tip of all is this:
Cover the family jewels. Idiots tend to target the ref's little buddies. ;)

Im 13 and i ref:|
Tips:
~Dont try to cheat just cause some ppl are your friends
~Try to be as fair as possible
~Watch out for the argue cheat. If people argue, just calmly explain the problem, NEVER raise your voice, and if your having trouble with the person, then call over another ref.
~If you made a bad call or have made a wrong desition, just tell the person your sorry, and hopefully theyll forgive you
~Help out other refs, and dont let there be cheating
~NEVER get lazy. No matter what, if your too lazy to go and call someone out, etc., than you shouldnt be a ref.
Theres some tips. I hope it helps.

that one coincides with the occasional person being banned from the field, a team giving up all 100 points to the other team that match, the said team getting fined 100 points, the said team then plays the rest of the day one down or forfeits, no refunds. (first offense)
I beat the ever living pulp out of the little......(second offense)
I don't get shot much.

couple pointers:
-be decisive. even if you make a questionable call.if u stnad by it,and not let them argue, ul be fine. if you have to raise your voice to do this, then raise your voice.
-tell them to talk to you in the stagin area.
-bring a medium towel and wave it around when you are running to a paint check, it will knock down paint flying at you. you can also hod it in front of your lil buddies when you are stadnign there, and wipe players hits off in between games.
if i think of more ill post em

I get shot a lot, but I'm always right on top of the action.
If I get in the way, keep shooting until I move. It's my fault if I block someones lane.
I don't care if people shoot me, but I come down hard on cheaters. :pissed:

Oh yeah... One thing that REALLY pisses me off at refs. If you're going to play at the field you ref at, PLEASE, PLEASE, DO NOT wear your ref shirt or mask. It's cheating because people often don't know if you're really a ref or not.

Well refs arent suppost to have guns so....just shoot him....unless it lookes like theyre fixing a gun...or something like that. And besides, you can tell another ref. and ive never seen that happen. Not even a story. Ive never HEARD of that, not even a thought until now.

A couple times off duty refs have played in their ref shirts. One other time a ref brought his gun onto the field for some reason and out of the blue shot at me.

When a ref has a marker and is shooting at you from behind a bunker, chances are, hes not a ref.

He was sitting on the sidelines chatting with another ref and I peeked out from a wall and he let loose like 10 shots at me.

Yeah, I have been to feilds like hit-n-run, and they have really bad refs. they don't watch, the just sit there. and they only have the part of the goggle that goes over your eyes and not over your mouth. Very unsafe.
I am a very honest player and I will not take sides. I thinked of buying a black and white stripe Tshirt. I will bring my gun because SOme times they have un even teams, and Teh ref that was there use to play every now and then, to help out.
electraDX, Too young? I'm 15 and I think some here is a ref and is 13. How old are you?

Get chrome or tinted lenses. Part of the reason players try to argue with refs is they take them on an equal level person to person. People can tell if they're winning or losing an argument, through the other person's eyes. So if a player can't even make eye contact with you, then it becomes harder to argue with you.
Plus chrome lenses prevent your eyes from giving away players positions when you're reffing. :)

Has its' great moments as well as its' crappy ones.
Things to do:
Be polite- regardless of what the player(s) say about you or your family. You are a ref and held to a HIGHER standard
Be Unbiased- Don't show favortism(as already mentioned).
Be Firm- Stand be ALL your calls, even it is wrong, stand behind it. You are the Ref, what you say goes at that very moment.
Be a REF- that means let the players play and you ref. Don't talk to them in casual conversation DURING a game, don't give any hints(as tempting as it is to help new players) to help a player or team.
Things not to do:
Don't lose your temper- remain calm and polite at all times(very difficult with some people.
Don't bend the rules for ANYONE- This would be showing favortism
Don't hesitate to- Admit you've made a bad call(at the time of the decision), eject someone out of the game for cheating, and make the call when it happens. If it is a bad call it will be sorted out after the game.
Don't back down from your decisions- Good or bad make them stand while ON THE FIELD.
You'll make mistakes along the way, and people will be pissed. Don't let it get you down. You have a job to do, so do it.
Congrats

No one should ref until they are at least 18. You young punks, when I was a kid we would walk for three hours thru the snow just to watch a paintball game. We didn't have any money you see, and if we wanted to play we had to take the rubber bands off the next door neibors paper and make our own guns with a pipe and a piece of leather with the rubber bands. You punks no nothing about real PBing. And the paintballs, oh we had to make those ourselves, we would wait for the paint in a bucket to get a layer of film on top and roll that into little balls in the plam of our hands.
And as for the goggles, all we had were old second hand snorkle masks, you punks couldn't even wipe our boots back then. Most of you weren't even a glem in your daddy's eye!
