View Full Version : Spyder Shutter loudness, how can it be toned down.
Man I always knew my Shutter was a bit loud but yesterday I shot my friends stock tippman 98 and that thing was sweet, quiet accurate, light. Just when I thought my Shutter was the bomb, ELCD trigger, STO Ergo Reg, nitro, my shots were flying everywhere and I realized my dam marker is just too loud, anything I can do to maybe reduce this? Thanx in advance for any advice.

there are a few ways to make it quieter.........
1) go LP. less pressure will make less noise
2) get a highly ported barrel. more porting make it quieter (although it is not as efficient)
3) use some kind of suppressor. (but some places will not let you use those)
lemme know what they are and where I can get one...Thanx

i would suggest getting a Carbon Fiber barrel. I used one on my shutter and it was deadly. get the 14 inch. you wont be disappointed

i would say get a new valve and barrel. IMO 14" is to long for a barrel, that is the absolute longest i would get (acutally i wouldnt, i would go with a 12") i think you should get a nice valve like tornando, and 12" smart parts tear drop, that would be nice :D

I would get a new barrel with porting. The J&J ceramic is very quiet.

SP all american is the quietest barrel I've ever used on my spyder. who care about accuracy  go for a 20" stonecold! that will make your gun quiet
****for those of you who cant tell, I'm being sarcastic!

VeNoM is dead on a new valve will supress 88% of the loudness coming from your shutter.

Hmmmmm... I fail to see how a valve would reduce noise by 88%...

well when someone make a stupid statement........it has to be corrected. A valve will do nothing to reduce the noise your guns makes. now if you couple that valve with a regulator and turn the pressure down, that will reduce noise.
and suppressr is not something you can buy. You have to make them.

get a JnJ and go LP

are you serious his gun was quiet? my cousin's tippman(stock) is louder than my compact with a bigshot by a whole lot.

I want to apologize for any rude remarks or stupid replys my little brother may have posted under my screen name. It wont happen again.
They told me theres no way to reduce the loudness factor, so basically this is all hype (according to them anyway). So I'll just have to bite the bullet on this one.

Tony, you said the shutter was a bomb, Do you mean it's real loud when it's gased up, is it loud when you dry fire it? (the famous ping ring) You might want to consider a delrin bolt from Tarantula. www.tarantulamfg.com I tend to agree with xen 100 low pressure will make it alot quietier, and a heavely ported barrel helps too, however, those two things work somewhat against each other if I understand low pressure vs excessive porting correctly! Now I very well could be wrong so if someone else wants to jump in here, that's ok. But from what I understand, porting will release excessive gases that "push" the ball out the barrel, and if you are already runnin' at a lp setting, . So depending on barrel length and where the porting starts you could be in trouble with velocity. Anyone elses view of this!
It's gassed up shooting paint, when I dry fire it, pretty much it's just loud all around. Does any one else here share my view on Shutter loudness or is this just my marker?
Which hole configuration would you recommend for the trantula bolt and also would you get it with or without the o-rings?

I had a shutter, and I tried a couple of different bolts, (Bob Long cyclone II & III ) then I found Tarantula's, I ordered two, One was a single hole and the other was a 6 hole, I found the single hole better. Not a huge difference but it just seemed better, it had no O-rings (required no oil/lube) and made my spyder quitier too! I'm pretty sure Tarantula makes a low pressure delrin bolt too! check'em out! He's also a Spyder user! I'll try and dig up a pic I've got from when we played a couple of month ago together in GRC.

I own a Shutter with a 14" J&J and it's nice and quiet. J&J barrels really are pretty quiet, and when you shoot paint they are REALLY quiet. I reccomend getting a J&J ceramic like mine. Go for the carbon fiber if you've got a bigger budget though, I understand it's better.
