ok this might be a big question - but I'd appreciate any help from you guys.

I've helped set up a new field recently and I am having a few problems with guns.

We've noticed that the paint is really not firing all that well. We've been through around 50000 paintballs in four separate shipments from two companies - so I don't think it's them.

We're also using infernos - which by all reviews are very good - indeed I've used them elsewhere.

Is there any other way to reduce breakage?

The guns are firing at around 280 at the moment - but I'm not sure whether it's worth lowering them any more as this could make it harder to actually mark someone without them just bouncing off?

Alsi is it strictly necessary to have the anti syphon tube pointing upwards inside the tank? I presume it must be - but how can you tell which way it points?

Many thanks in advance...

Do you have a good paint/barrel match? if not that is why all the balls are breaking.

ok beat me if I'm being ignorant, could you explain a bit? I didn't realize there was any need to match balls to barrel. They're all the same size anyway aren't they?

Barrels come in different bore sizes (that is the diameter across the barrel). Paint also comes in different bore sizes. So, in order to decrease breakage and increase consistency and accuracy you must match the barrel bore with an equal or smaller paint bore. If the paint is too large for the barrel, it will break more.

oh i see - i actually thought they were all standard size. they certainly match - 0.68 is the only type available and that'[s the same as the barrel.

It's quite a cold climate is there any tips for getting co2 to work better in such climates?

You're right, they ARE all .68 caliber, but the variation occurs in the 3rd decimal place that is not shown on the box of paint. The variation in size may seem to be too small to matter, but you have to realize that paintballs are speeding through the barrel at 200mph.

Below is a link to a paint/barrel bore chart. To use it you must find the bore of the barrels that you are using, then match it up with the paint sizes.

Infernos are small bore paint, so the bore size may not be the problem. What type of guns are you using?

Here's what i would do from a business stand point. Lower the guns to 240 fps. Possibly less breakage in barrel and less breakage on body. The player will keep on playing and shooting more paint. You have fixed guns and more money in the bank. But that will only work if you sell field paint.
